Is there any bedside safe you feel comfortable leaving a gun in while away from home?

I am just curious if any of these bedside safes such as the gunvault or similar type of safes seem secure enough not only to use while in the home, but also while leaving a gun in while away from the home for the day. I have a large gun safe now, and I am considering one of these bedside safes but I am afraid that on occassion I would forget that my HD handgun is locked in there and I would forget to transfer it to my large gun safe.

Right now before I leave the hosue I put my HD handgun back in the large safe in the morning, but its easy when I see it just sitting on my nightstand. I dont have children, but my cats have taken a liking to my handgun in the last few days and seem to sniff around and scratch at it. I keep it holstered in a good holster, but it still makes me nervous which is why I am considering one of these bedside type safes. I carry a smaller version of my HD gun, which is why its not as simple as waking up and strapping it on.

My "go to" firearm is in a relatively inexpensive Sentry model V360 box that is bolted hard to a wall. It stays there 24/7.

Can someone get into that box?

Sure, with the right tools and with enough time......both of which would likely be in short supply to the smash and grab types.

Particularly so with the monitored alarm system screaming in their ear.

I have an electronic ADG model. It's bolted down and not readily visible. I keep my bedside and carry gun in there, even though I'll be the first to admit it's not very secure. I guess I sacrifice some security for convenience. It's marginally better than the dresser drawer.

I have a gunvault (mini-deluxe) and I keep my HD weapon in there. It's currently not bolted down, partially because I don't like any of my options for places to bolt it. I have no illusions about it being theft-proof. Obviously they can just pick up and leave with the safe. It's more to keep from being surprised by some BG with my own gun when I get home.

Well...I fell comfortable leaving my gun in a safe, in the closet, on the desk, on the wall, on the fridge, or where ever when I'm away from home. They aren't going anywhere.

Maybe this question wasn't meant for me.

I have an electronic ADG box bolted to the inside of a bedside cabinet. I can get into it in seconds, and in the dark if need be.

I consider it protection against kids, guests, cleaning lady, or other unauthorized occupants who might mess with the gun. I think it also provides some security against the quick "in and out" type burglar who doesn't want to spend a lot of time or make a lot of noise. Can it be defeated? Sure, with a carbide drill or big pry bar.

If you want more security, stick with the big, heavy, monster safes.

When you get one make sure it bolts down (and bolt it down), and has a "recessed" door opening (makes it harder to just pry open).

I have 2 different types. Got the one they sell at wally world some kind of "sport safe", works great but won't hang on the wall, got to bolt it to the floor or HEAVY furniture.

The secone one is a surface mount wall safe by stack on. It works well and like another poster said "with the monitoered alarms system" they won't stay long. In addition I have camera's inside and outside of my home on a digital video recorder.

I do NOT advocate leaving a firearm in the open where soemone can just walk in and take it. (I'm guilty of this, I have a bersa 380 in my bathroom closet) It's just a piece to keep someone off me long enough to get something bigger.

I pay too much for most of my stuff to let soemoen just walk in and take it.

I feel very secure with my safe from R&D Enterprises. Its bolted to the floor in my bedroom closet within a moments reach.Has a push button key pad which opens in seconds even in the dark.
Holds 5 good sized handguns.I've had it for 10 years.A welder friend told me only a welding torch or dynamite will open this chunk of steel up.I highly recommend this fine company.See this site:

Well can you believe this?!They are no longer making handgun safes.
Guess I should have checked the site first.Sorry about that.Having a bad day.

I have a minivault, but not bolted down. I did get the optional cable and I ran this through the headboard of our bed. The idea is to keep kids and cleaning ladies away from my firearm and to also keep them from moving the thing around. I expect a determined thief could defeat the cable quickly. Getting into the mini-vault is another story.

If I'm going to be away from my home for any length of time, I move my bedside firearm into my real gun safe. Frankly, I wish I could just take my bedside firearm with me when I leave my home, but this is California and bitch, bitch, bitch.... :D

+1 for the Gunvault...

quick and easy access (even in the dark)

reasonably secure....kid proof (for well adjusted children) is what I'm after

I have the larger two shelf model......

my home defense handgun lives their 24/7, while my CCW piece just spends the night.

I have the gunvault as well; but with the optional cable lock looped around something solid. At least they won't walk off with it w/o a fight.
