Is this a good deal on the enfield?

hmm, i was looking at those the other day. looks interesting. :scrutiny: hows accuracy?

I have one manufactured by Ishapore Arms 1968, imported ad refurbished by Navy Arms. Back a few years I could hit 9 x 12 steel plates out to 400 yards standing off hand with the original sights. Good enough to shoot or hunt with. However they are not light!

Looks like a good deal, I had one a few years ago that I paid $75 for and it was pretty good shooter.

My only problem with them is that I've heard you shouldn't shoot .308Win through them. Don't know if its true or not but I never wanted to take the chance so I ditched the gun for another Enfield in the original .303 cal. Also it seems of late that 7.62Nato is getting hard to find and more pricey.

i was under the impression NATO was hoter then the average 308, why couldnt you use standard 308?

Use search, discussion on the Aim Enfields and 7.62/.308 on this forum about a week ago

You can shoot .308 through them.

Metal is in good condition. Wood has more repairs then the 169$ guns. The screw heads on all of the Aims have been butchered. 99 to the "select" ones.
Not sure who did the black paint on the more expensive guns but in some cases it's been sprayed on over the grease.
I picked up 4 of the $99 rifles and none of them look resprayed, they are all original worn finish in appearance.
I got lucky and of the 4 2 of them had butt-stocks that are in better condition then the selects, and one had a near perfect forearm.

Did a search under Lee-Enfield and came up with the info that prior to the Indian government deciding to change to .308 for the purpose of having compatible ammo in the field, all the Enfields (something like 5 million of them) were issued in 303. There is the misimpression that a lot were re-chambered for .308 and therefore not up to a .308 load. Not true. If you can get an Enfield 2A1 it was set up for .308 and will handle most any .308 UNLESS you get surplus designed for something like an FN. Bought some import stuff and it would lock up my action so I sold it to a buddy with a semi in .308 and he loved it.
