Would it be possible to shave the cylinder of a .357 sp101 to take moon clips for .357 and 38 spec.? Could I then also fire 9mm ammo ( and .380, 9mm Mak, etc.) in moon clips in this gun? Anybody know for sure?

Not aware of anyone doing sp101 conversions (though moonclips.com does list clips for other rugers, e.g., the GP100). Even if you can get it converted, though, you will not be able to fire 9mm (which are a slightly tapered case) in the straight-walled .357 cylinder.

If I'm not mistaken, the 9x18 is not a true 9mm as it is larger in diameter.
I don't know if it would be kosher to use even in a revolver chambered in .38special/. 357magnum.

That's true, the 9mm Mak (9X18) would not be safe to fire out of a 9X17 or 9X19 sized barrel or even one for .357. The Maks bullet diameter is to large for this.

Also, I don't see the point of this. As Standing Wolf said, I ask why you would want to do this in the first place. It would be easier just to locate a 9mm revolver and have your current .357 converted for moonclips if you really want to do that November.

Regarding the ability to shoot 9mm out of a .357 barrel, it may not be the most perfectly accurate thing in the world but it's not without precedent: Ruger has a convertible NM Blackhawk that does just that.

Further, keep in mind that the straight-walled .357 has a case diameter of .379". A 9mm Luger tapes from .391" to .380". Certainly you won't be able to fire both cartridges out of any one cylinder (moon clips or no). However, I see no reason why you couldn't have the cylinder machined to take 9mm moonclips and then reamed out to 9mm chamber specs. Right? Ruger used to make a 9mm SP-101, and from what I understand they're pretty sought after, but I'm not sure if they're sufficiently scarce that'd you want to try something like this.

I've located quite a few of the SP-101 9mm's but decided to get an ultra lite Taurus 9mm revolver instead. The Rugers are not common, but they are not scarce either. I think that Ruger makes a small production run of 9mm SP-101's every once in awhile to quell demand, but alot of them go overseas. Places like KY Imports have them in stock from time to time, or you can find them online at auction sites or classified ads. Heck I'm sure if anybody on this board knows a shop that has one, they'd let you know.

You can ream a 357 cylinder to accept both 357/38 and 9mm. 9mm accuracy is acceptable for emergency use, sometimes better. 357 accuracy is unchanged, but the the cases swell at the base. I wouldn't reload them, and they will no longer fit in any other revlover.

Multi-Calibered Wheelgun in .38-

Hello, try a net or site search for a gun called the Medusa.
I think a company named Phillps & Rogers developed a unique ejector that functioned with most any.355/.357 caliber cartridges found worldwide.

Thanks for all the replies. The reason I ask is because I want a strong, versatile, small revolver to be used for plinking and defense duties and be able to fit the Crimson Trace grips. I'd also like it to handle a few different calibers and be quick to reload (moonclips). I'm also partial to Rugers, particularly the SP-101. I like 9mm and .357 so I thought I'd like to do this project. I don't reload, so I wouldn't mind the .357 cases bulging (as long as they don't go kaboom). Wildalaska, is this something you could do, or does anyone know who could do this? Thanks again.
