Is this scope mounted too low?

Scope is a 30mm Vortex PST 4-16X50 on my 700 .308. I managed to get Leupold medium rings to clear the barrel. I can slide 10 sheets of paper between the tightest spot between the scope and barrel. Is this enough clearance? DC3A0F89-F7FA-4A17-B831-77167F9910C5.jpeg

Yep, as long as the objective isn't touching the barrel and / or bound up, it's just fine. You actually want your optics as close to the barrel as possible when possible like this. It makes zeroing them in much easier with less adjustments needed.

Awesome. My only concern was barrel flex during firing smacking the scope. But probably this heavy barreled .308 will be fine?

The cheek weild on the HS precision stock remains great with this setup.

I have a Rem 581 that I mounted a scope on after removing the rear sight blade but leaving the plastic base on the barrel. This left little room between the lens and the sight base, so I cut a little wedge out of the lens cap to allow the cap to fit on the scope lens. You could do the same with this lens if you desire to cap it in storage.

Barrels do flex, vibrate etc, but , not near that much. Depending on your paper thickness you have .020 to .050 of clearance. If the barrel moved that much things would quickly start breaking or coming loose. You are good to go. My criteria on minimum height is a cleaning patch must pass thru. This is so I can try and oil things if out in the snow or rain.

Ive had a scope low enough that it eventually wore a shiny spot on the scope and barrel from contact. Still shot fine tho. Yours looks good to me.

No contact and good cheek weld,
Don’t worry and go shoot!
