I was cleaning a Taurus PT .738, a very nice little pistol. The gun has never been cleaned before and was shot 300+ times by the owner. The disassembly latch broke as soon as I had touched it. Seems like a pretty weak part, so I went to Taurus to order a disassembly latch.

I never dealt personally with Taurus till Jan 6th. They said it will take 7-10 business days, which was fine. I order two of them, it was only $5 each. Well Jan 20th came around and did nothing, so I called Taurus. The lady told me the order was not put in yet, and I questioned her about that. She said that they took the order but they had not placed it yet and told me that would take 7-10 days. I asked when would I get the part, she stated in a few days.

So Jan 27th, I called this morning to ask where is my order. The lady said they would be shipping it out next week, sometime.

I must admit I am not very thrilled with Taurus and feel their customer service has been giving me the run around. Has anyone else had issues with Taurus and order a part? I must admit this experience has made me loose interested in any of their products. But maybe it is just my bad luck with this part, and would like others opinions...good or bad.

Took six months to get a mount for a Tracker. On the day I called in the order, they took my information and credit card number and said it would be shipped that week. Called a few weeks later to check and was told it was backordered. Three months later same story. When I asked for refund, the mount came a week later.

I wrote them several months ago with quality concerns about the Judge which was commonly shipped with way oversize chamber throats...ranging up to as much as .464", when the proper size for 45 Colt is around .452-.454. Customers were complaining of severe leading and I witnessed several and they were right. Never heard back. Checked the last four that came into the shop and they are now running around .454". I bought one and it doesn' lead nearly as bad as the originals.
We send lots of small framed Tauri back for warranty work and they are always quick to turn them around. Wish they'd just do it right in the first place.

Thanks PapaG for the response. Looks like I am facing the same battle of "Where is my package at!"

When you're saying severe leading, you mean the lead fouling in the bore? If so I have a great product that eliminates up to 100% of copper/lead fouling in all bores.

I mean so much lead in the bore that is hangs like stalactites (a little hyperbole, there). I took one friend's Judge and after using a half pack of lead removing patches, lapped the bore until it was mirror bright. Didn't make a difference as the oversize throats lets the lead be exposed to way too much gas before hitting the forcing cone.

If you have something that prevents that, even with crappily machined cylinders, I'd like to try it.

I picked up a PT-58 S from Century. Once it came in I ran 150 rounds through it to make sure it was running OK.

I called up Taurus to order some spare parts for it.

I was looking for mag springs, can't get those, just complete mags.
A new mag base plate, same as the springs, need to get complete mag.
A couple recoil springs, they had those and they were cheap.

They had them to me in10 days.

Other then the mag parts and back order on a couple other parts, they were ok to deal with.

I'll try them again in another couple months for the backordered stuff. We'll see how they do next time.

Taurus isn't the only laggard in supplying replacement parts. I ordered an extractor and spring for a Walther PPS from S&W on 3 Jan. On 25 Jan I called to find out what happened to my order (should have been shipped 7-10 days). They said it was in the shipping department, and should be shipped this week.

Figger they had to order it from Germany. Didn't figger they'd have to mine the ore, then smelt it into an extractor! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Apparently I get an infraction for telling people about Dyna-Bore Coat because I sell it. But if your having lead fouling issues PapaG, check out my website since I can't tell you about it on here. I mean your the one that had stated the issue of lead fouling and I just responding with a resolution...oh well another infraction :(...

Ya know, ALL the gun rags say how Taurus firearms are sooooooo much better than they used to be (true), but with all the fine quality firearms available now, why settle for less---personally, I would rather own fewer fine guns then lots of "maybe OK" guns---just my two cents...

The only Taurus i currently own is a PT1911, But ive owned a PT745 also.
I traded the PT745 as i dont like the idea of not being able to readily buy parts as i see fit.
I dont send guns in for repairs unless they have broken frames and things i cant fix with just a new part.
My PT1911 only has 3 original parts in it, The frame/slide and barrel. Everything else is high end after market. Had i not been able to buy parts like that i would have gotten rid of it also.

I just bought a Kahr MK9 and i can have any part for that gun except a frame overnighted to me at any given time.
S&W is good that way also, Im sure others are also i just dont know about them.

But in all honesty Taurus make a good gun especially with their new designs. But id pray nightly a part doesn't need replaced.
