A few weeks ago I bought my girls a single shot shotgun. Wife said it was for me but really, it was extremely unpleasant to shoot. It’s too small. (Yes I tried it out though, and it slapped my cheekbone a bit)
We drilled a bunch. Safe handling. Operational instructions. Aiming. It has worked out well. My 11 yr old wasn’t impressed but my 9yr old took to the little Rossi like a goldfish takes to water. That girl couldn’t miss. Splattered water bottles, boxes, coke cans… She had a blast. I couldn’t get her to shoot a box after the first coke can though because it’s fun watching reactive targets react. I think the smile says it all, and with the whole fam there to cheer her on it was even that much better. She now gets to try her hand with slugs at 20 yards or less. It’s a pretty good bet we see deer in the morning, and 50-50 on getting a shot. I’m proud as punch, and she is as excited as I was when I was going hunting for the first time myself.
