So I had to complete my Christmas shopping today, and that included stopping in at the local hunting and fishing store to grab a nice shirt for my Father in law (and taste some of the chilli at the local cookoff. While there, I somehow broke away from shirt buying to go look at the nice selection of firearms they had for sale. I was looking at one of the racks, checking out that new Ruger 204, when it caught my eye.
Casually I ask the clerk who was helping me about the O/U I saw on the rack down the way. He confirmed that I did have a good eye, and it was the shotgun I thought it was. We stepped over to look at it. Yep, beautiful wood, nice scroll work, little bird under the receiver, tight lockup, no play. Check the price, look again, and then ask him to verify the price is right. Reappraise the gun to see if anything is wrong with it, nope couple dings in the stock and it could use a detail cleaning but no problems.
About that time my wife comes over. Seems that without my "help" she was able to pick two shirts and she just wants me to decide which is nicer. I casually mention to her this was the shotgun I have wanted for years.
Fill out the forms and call me in. Approved. Here you are sir, Kelly will ring you up. Owner comes over to chat with me, nice guy. Gives me a couple boxes of shells on the house, and a quick shake of the hand. I am the proud owner of a WInchester 101 pigeon grade. As I walk out with it no fewer then 4 people ask me "Is that the 101? Man, I was going to buy that thing!" So here I sit, no buyers remorse on my part.
Pictures are in the works, but man am I excited!
