Hi,
I have an Ithaca M37 riot gun that I'd like to buy another barrel for and use it for some type of clay game. Are Ithaca barrels interchangeable like on some of the Remington packages or should I look for another shotgun? If you can swap out barrels, is it easy or am I going to throw a fit and break something?

Thanks for your help,
Rob

When you say "riot" do you mean with an extended mag tube? If yes, you can't use a long barrel configured for the standard mag tube as the yoke position is different from "riot" barrel to "sporting" barrel

I have a "regular" Ithaca 37. I bought a 20" factory riot barrel. It changes out with the long barrel in about 10 seconds. I use the long barrel for duck and goose hunting and put the short one on for home defense. (I put a fiber optic sight on the riot barrel, which helps a lot with quick pointing.) I do not have any kind of extended magazine for it, but then I've got a Remington Competition Master if I need more capacity.

Hi,
Yes, I have the extended mag tube on it. It didn't even occur to me that would be a problem. I guess I'll have to go another route. Thanks for the help guys.

PI Rob,
get your local smith to move the lug.
They are brazed on ad can be removed and replaced a bit farther up the bbl if you want to bad enough.

Really depends on when the gun was manufactured. Barrels on the older Ithicas can be changed. During one of the times that the company changed hands, I seem to recall that the guns were beng built with fixed barrels; then later on they reverted to interchangable barrels. Also some of the newer barrels won't work on the older guns. Something about a different thread. I think your best bet would be to take it to a gunsmith and one give you an opinion.

Love my 20ga Ithicas...

Only the "Deerslayers" had fixed barrels. They did that for improved slug accuracy. Conventional guns had removable barrels.
