I may even carry it!!! :D

I took my Taurus M605 to the range today for it's second outing.
I fired 100 rapid fire (shot in less than 15 minutes) rounds of Winchester White Box 130gr .38spl at a distance of 15 yards all double action. The recoil was more than acceptable and the accuracy was too!!! :)
The trigger was surprisingly smooth considering what I have heard about Taurus triggers!! The gun got pretty warm, yet the cylinder did not bind up as I have heard them to do, either!!!

Now for the $10,000 question.
The first rounds I fired were 158gr .357MAG. Talk about painful!!!
I'm think'in .38spl +P for this!! ;)
In fact, I have a box of 150gr PMC starfire .357MAG and 125gr Gold Dot .38spl +P that I got with the gun.
Which would be better for carry????
I also began to practice loading it with a speedloader.

Yup!! This old bottom feeder might just convert!!!! :what:

Any advice as to a holster??? I prefer IWB.

Hi denfoote,
Glad you like your new gun, btw, we need to get the gang together for another shooting session one of these days. I carry the 125 grain .38+P Gold Dots in my S&W 2 1/2" 66 and 640 Centennial. I know that the .357 is a better round, provided you get a good hit with the first shot or have the ability for quick follow up shots. I find that my recovery time with .357's in smaller guns is slower than I am comfortable with, therefore, the .38+P.

Between the .357 magnum starfire and the .38 special +P gold dot, I'd use the gold dot. I personally would choose something else, and that would be the Winchester .357 magnum 110 gr. JHP.

Thanks Jim. Gold Dot it is then!! :D

Mike,
I was out at Ben Avery. Now that the weather is getting warm, but not broil an egg hot, we could do it. Let's see if we can set it up soon. PM me with some dates. We have another refueling outage out at the plant in April, so that will be hectic. How about later this month???

I have a Taurus 651 (basically the same as the 605) in 357 maggie. I've found that a Speer 125gr.JHP Gold Dot sitting on top of 8.6 gr of Unique is damn accurate out of the short barrel. The recoil isn't bad either. Slightly stiffer than the 38 spl +P 125gr but nowhere near as stiff as the 357 158gr. If you handload or no someone who does you may want them to make up some of these rounds. The load data is from Speer Manual #13. I get something like 1200 fps out of a 6" barrel with these. Buddy shot my chrono 6 months ago so I haven't been able to chrono them out of my 651.

Best of luck with the 605. I think the Taurus's are nice guns.

If you REALLY wanna feel the heat run some .357mag Fiocchi through it!:what:
I bet i could dig that Hi-Point up today and it would run like a custom race gun!
Hi-Points RULE!:neener:
