when all the deer hunters head to the range to check their zeroes and sight in the new rifles and scopes they've picked up. That means all kinds of less common rifle brass that we can't get any other time of year.

So, what'd you find?

Yesterday I found some .25-06, .243, .300 Win Mag, a bunch of .300 WSM, and a bunch of 7mm-08. Also got a bunch of .30-06, which isn't rare, per say, but I don't seem to find much outside of this time of year. I guess the only folks who shoot it year round are reloaders.

The best find of the day was 30 pieces of Lapua .308 Win brass. I found an ASYM brand factory ammo box which said they use Lapua brass and 175 gr SMKs. Can't believe someone would just leave that laying.

I just picked up a butt-ton of Thirty-Ought-Six and 308 brass from the range.

Been in a 56+ year love affair with the Ought-Six, with out peer on the loading bench or the field.

The 308 is lighter, easier to carry and get cheap ammo for, but the 30/06 is still the Old Man of the Field.

I recently picked up 60 (three Boxes) of 338 Lapua Brass! LOL!
More money than brains I guess!

That brass is ridiculously expensive, and whether you load or not, they could have got close to 100.00 for it here!

Wish I had money like that! LOL!

I have been going more frequently thinking the exact same thing. Not doing too good other than a bunch of 270 that changed in to 25-06 very very quickly upon return home. Glad to see I was not in my thought, just have not hit it right!

I scored a bunch of .243 and .223 brass Sunday, but the unusual was an entire box of empty 300 Win. Magnum brass. I occasionally find handfuls of this 300 Win. Magnum brass at my range and I can't believe anybody leaves these small Coke bottle sized cases in the trash, whether they reload or not. I don't own a 300 Win. Mag rifle, nor have I ever had the desire. But if I keep finding the brass who knows???

Scroungers, eh?
If someone were walking along and $1 bills were comstantly falling out of their pockets and they knew it but didn't care, are you saying you wouldn't stop to pick up the $1 bills? I sure as hell would. I'm at the point I don't even toss out rimfire brass if I can help it. It's good for trading fodder with people who swage their own jacketed bullets or to add to your scrap brass pile.

this time of year? 30 minute drive to show up at the range 20 minutes before opening and head to the back of the line. Pay the fee, head to the range and find that wait time is at least 45 minutes. The RO is the one that frowns on picking up others' brass and will warn anyone reaching for something shiny. No dividers between positions, so the guy next to you is spitting .223 brass on to your bench once every second, the fastest shooting allowed. I chose not to wait or put up with muzzle blast and ejecta from the bench to the left, I decided to forfeit the range fee as a "stupid tax" for going to the range this time of year.

Safe area to shoot in the desert is 45-60 minutes away. No waiting, no hot brass down the neck, no SS range officer. The biggest problem I have is with people camping close to my favorite spot. Have to change location.
2nd major problem, no tag for the nice pronghorn buck that jumped from the arroyo after my 1st shot.

Best benefit? I shoot better when I'm not being pelted with the neighbor's brass. Found the sub-moa load I can work with for my .243.

But.. no brass on the ground to take home but mine. These BLM areas have ben picked clean, down to the 22s.
