hello
I bought a tp22 at the gun show today. The gun is great, but the frame has its finish worn off on the front strap and in front of the trigger guard. The frame looks like aluminum to me, but does anyone know for sure? how would i refinish this metal? the slide looks like blued steel, but fortunately, the slide is in great shape, just the frame shows wear.

Alloy frames are always a problem when it comes to refinishing. These are two options you can consider.

1. Polish the entire frame so it contrasts with the blued slide. Some like this cosmetic look while others don’t. This would be the lowest cost choice.

2. Brownells’ (www.brownells.com) have a spray paint in blue-black or black that you can spray on the stripped frame and then bake it in an oven. The frame will closely match the slide so far as color is concerned, and touch-up is easy.

thank you for the replies, Mr. Irwin, Mr. Fluff. now does anyone know how to detail strip a tp22? i am very afraid to, because right now everything looks fine to take apart, except for 1 TINY spring on a peice that somehow looks like it interacts with the firing pin. any assistance would be helpful.

Trust me, 25/20, it is a PAIN IN THE AZZ.

Getting the safety detent and spring out of the slide is an exercise in frustration and head banging. And that's the easy part. Getting it back in without it rocketing across the room is the hard part.

Do yourself a favor, and don't. Dunk tank soak it in mineral spirits, set it on your washinging machine to agitate for a couple of weeks, and then use gun scrubber on it.

Again I agree with Mike, but if I understand the situation you don't need to refinsh the slide, just the frame.

The design generally follows that of the Walther PPK.

Ok, thanks for the answers so fast guys. Oh well, i guess if it is that much of a PITA, i guess i will just do what i can see without taking it all the way apart.
