IWB With No Holster?

In many areas with concealed carry permits, part of your permit mandates that the concealed firearm must be in a retention holster.

I know of Georgia which has this restriction, and no other place. I think the restriction is not needed.

I've mexican carried for 6 of the 7 years I've carried a gun. Still no hole in my butt cheek, despite what the interwebz say.

Never found any holster I liked. I've found that rubber grips secure the gun from wiggling or falling. I suppose I could try the clip draw thing, but it is mostly redundant with rubber grips.

Part of the problem I've had with holsters is that none got the angle quite right, none (of the leather ones I tried) were thin enough, and none let the gun ride as low as mexican carry.

I've heard that some of the new plastic holsters may solve some of these problems and might be worth a look.

I've carried this way (in the conventional position behind the hip, not down the front of my pants), but only for short distances and durations, e.g., walking out to my truck in the carport.

I have a clipdraw on my SP101. It works ok, like was said before, a heavy DAO revolver makes it very safe. Never had a problem, but may move to a IWB holster just for comfort.

I did carry a PLR-16 Mexican Carry one time, but it was mostly just because I could.

As much as some of CC guns I've had have moved around while in Uncle Mike's IWB holsters, I wouldn't dare to carry without a holster in anything but an emergency.

I've often done it in a car, but a $10 IWB gunshow holster has worked perfectly for me and my RAMI. I've got a FIST IWB on order, but I'm not sure it will be that much better than my ten buck wonder!

Been doing it for years. No problem. Comfy. Aids in concealement --less bulk. Might not be so great for skinnier folks. I carry autos at nine o'clock this way --i.e., crossdraw. Some advantages if you think about it. I don't do it with revolvers, though.

Engenders controversy, though

It might be a religious tenet or something.

However, some states require a holster.

I 'spect the "nibblers" up at the State Capidull will latch onto that and require holsters someday. Just 'cause they're "nibblers," and for no other good reason.

What's interesting is that as soon as one brave soul 'fesses up to this reprehensible and firearms-expert incorrect practice, others who do it overcome their timidity and have a tendency to chime in with agreement.
