Hello all.

This is my first post but I have been a lurker for sometime.

I have just completed restoring my grandfather's JC Higgins model 10313 .22 rifle from the 1950's era.

It has a Weaver B6 scope (3/4" diameter) mounted to a Weaver N2 side mount.

The Weaver side mount is held by 4 screws that screw into 4 tapped holes on the rifle.

I want to replace the old Weaver scope with a new Bushnell 3-9x32 or similar scope that has a 1" tube diameter.

Anyone know where I can find a scope mounting that uses the 4 tapped holes that are currently on the rifle?
A tip-off mounting is most desired.

You folks have a very informative forum.

Thanks in advance for any posting reply.

Havlin has the only scope mount that I aware of that replaces these old mounts. It gives you a Weaver base that you can use any weaver rings. Link: http://www.havlinsales.com/22rifle.htm It is also for a Mossberg barrel contour and I am unsure who made your J.C. Higgins. Hope this helps ........:).

If I am looking at a cross over chart correctly your J.C. Higgins was made by Marlin and is a M81. This may or may not be any help on your scope mount. Best of luck. :)

The JC Higgins Model 103.13 22 rifle was sold by Sears and made by New Standard Gun Company that made brand name guns for retailers like Sears, Montgomery Ward etc.

However, there must be some link between the New Standard Gun Company and Marlin.

The JC Higgins model 103.13 seems to be the excat same rifle as the Marlin model 81.

Anyone know what the link is?

I have had a request to explain how I mounted a 1" tube diameter scope to my J.C. Higgins Model 103.13

I purchased the following items from MidwayUSA and McMaster-Carr:

1) I modified the Weaver Detachable Slide-Mount by milling one slide off the mount.
Actually, I ground it off with a flat bed belt sander.
This allows the Detachable side mount to be mounted backwards onto the Weaver Side Mount Base
and the mounting slide ridge won't interfere with the large diameter mounting screws.

2) I drilled holes into the Weaver Side Mount base for two 1/8" locating pins.
Under drilling the holes for a interference fit with the tool steel rod.
Actually, I gang drilled simultaneously the two clamped weaver parts on a drill press to
assure exact hole alignment.
I felt the locating pins were necessary since the two mount screws seemed to have some slop.
I wasn't to interested in re-sight the scope each time I removed it from the rifle.

3) I drilled two locating pin clearance holes into the Weaver 1" Detachable Side-Mount.
Clearance holes were drilled with a close tight tolerance for a tight fit.

The photos shows the locating pins in a non trimmed state.
The pins were ground to just allow 1/16" protrusion above the 1" detachable Side-Mount surface.

I have used the rifle several time and un-mounting and re-mounting the scope in the field has been very successful.
There was no scope re-sighting needed after re-mounting the scope.
The locating pins did the trick.

The receiver was drilled and tapped for a scope when the rifle was made.
I think all the 103.13 models came from the factory ready for scope mounting.
At least this rifle did.

Thanks for the reply. Mine unfortunately did not come drilled from the factory, but it does have the peep sight. I like the idea of the removable scope making the irons usable without having to re-zero.
