640-1 used $365
36 used $215
642 NIB $400

Sad thing is, I bought a used Chief's special in 1970 for $35.00 and traded it off a few months later for something I don't even remember.:(

Brand new 642 for 425 today. I didn't make much of an effort to shop around, I suppose I could have done better had I been willing to drive around. I'm satisfied though, will have to wait till next week to shoot it.

Since there were a few comments on the price...

I live in Durham, but I shop at Lawmens in Raleigh. The prices are quite good, like on the 642CT.

They used to sell to LEO only but I believe now they'll sell to anyone in public safety (Fire, EMS, Security). You'll have to call to ask. Also, their website does not give a very good representation of what they've got in stock.

Also, it was the one that shipped from S&W with the CT grips, they've got the S&W logo on them. 305 I think.

I just got a very nice Model 10-6 off Auction Arms for 248 + 17 Shipping & 20 th my FFL guy. I'm happy. :)

I traded a Model 10 and a Model 33 off years ago and that was a mistake. The 33 is going to cost me more I'm afraid as they are proud of them now, although I may catch one right someday. :)

The 49 I bought in 1975 and paid $75 for it, 2 additional sets of Herrett grips, 2 Bucheimer holsters, and 350 rds of W-W 158 LSWCHP+P. It belonged to an FBI agent who had just gotten it back from the smiths at Quantico who done a great job on the trigger.
The 649 I bought in 1995 and paid $150. It was NIB from an agency that was getting rid of their wheelguns when they were going to autos. They had 3 never issued/never fired 649s. I bought 1 and a buddy bought the other 2.

I was at my favorite purveyor of fine firearms over the weekend and noticed the new 642's were up to $385 from $370. Just a bit of an increase.

I ended up buying a pre-lock 38-2 Bodyguard Airweight, 99% condition w/o box, for $315.

Early 60's Model 36 flatlatch with trigger shoe. My CCW J-frame. 350.00 dollars off Gunbroker.

I paid $495 for my new S&W 442 this year (saw a used one for sale at a local gun shop for $550). I have a S&W 36LS that I paid $499 for about 2 years ago. THese high prices are unfortunately typical for my area. I could have saved some online, but with mailing costs and FFL fees and such it ends up not being much of a savings.
