Last night on 24:

Jack is trying to extract information from an "international secret info broker" named Collette Stenger. He accuses her of withholding information about his mentor-turned-thug Chris Henderson. The Federal Marshal guarding Collette says that Jack can’t question her until the order to rescind her immunity is received. Jack knocks the Marshal out, grabs his pistol (a Glock) and points it at Collette. She refuses to talk, so to show her he really means business, Jack racks the slide (of course, no round is ejected--a common Hollywood goof). Then, he puts the muzzle just centimeters from her head and menacingly says, "I'm going to count to 3." At that point, we see that the act of racking the slide has apparently caused a stovepipe, because the slide is partially out of battery with approximately 1" of the barrel exposed. Fox meant for it to be a tense scene, but my son and I just busted out laughing. It was funny and a little frustrating. I guess these gun goofs are just going to be typical Hollywood fare.

He is getting soft. A couple seasons ago he would have shot her in the leg or shoulder to show her he means business.

You know I didn't even notice that(the slide being out of battery)I thought it may have been some kind of longer tactical barrel...still on eof my favorite shows though.....

He could have just roughed her up a bit, and threatened to give her a *

He didnt have to aim the gun at her:( .

Edited because this is The High Road, and that ain't cool here.

It really doesn't matter. He can hit a guy at 150 yards shooting one handed with his pistol, while he is running. Doesn't have to be in battery... He could point his finger and drop any one of us. Just be thankful every day.

The only reason you are alive today is Jack Bauer doesn't want to kill you...

This is simply a modern "cocking the 94" moment... in old westerns I use to take particular delight counting how many times the western cowboy movie heroes cocked the lever action to indicate a threat! In actuality, if all those '94's were cocked that frequently the western roads would be awash in loaded ammunition! I never understood why a cowboy would we walking around lacking a round in the chamber????

In any event it's Hollywood... no relation at all to reality!

I liked the muzzle flash of the "silenced" pistols....still one of my favorite shows...I just can't help myself when I see some "Hollywood" gun play!

I'm surprised that anyone still watches that show. I'm a "Prison Break" guy. I stopped watching "24" after season 3. I refuse to believe one guy could have that many bad days. It's just insane. I agree with the guy who said that in the earlier seasons Jackie would have just started breaking bones until he heard what he wanted. I believe that after stopping a presidential assasination, a nuclear bomb attack & killer virus, Jack would be given a carte blanche to do anything he thinks is needed.

I saw the "out of battery" gun goof, too. :D

What gets me about "24" is that every season - I mean every %$#@! season - CTU is messed up by one or more brown-nosing bureaucrats sent in from "upstairs" to run things.

And the bad guys always seem to have more intel, more hardware, more "moles" and more manpower than the whole of the U.S. Government.

(But at least Jack Bauer and friends can drive from one end of L.A. to the other in a matter of minutes, no matter what time of day it is.)

The show has become a parody of itself . . . once I realized that, I continued to watch it just for the comedy.

I work 2nd shift, so I tape 24. I'm going to watch it now. Can't wait to see it!

Yes, he racks the slide and points it at her head. At this point, the gun looks fine. Then they switch the camera so it's showing his face only, and when they switch back to the 2 of them, the gun's stuck 1/2 way open.

I was amazed that in about 3 minutes, the computer girl (Zoe?)was able to find out that Jack's g/f had been in a hotel w/ the traitorous Secret Service agent who killed himself. She stated that she e-mailed the hotel manager and he confirmed the info that the pair had been in the same hotel room.

Damn, that was quick :p

Sometimes, they stretch/fudge the time in order to get the plot to work.

Can U imagine having a 24 hour period with ALL of this happening - Hell, this is what, the 5th season. Those are some SERIOUS days that Jack Bauer goes thru. After 1 of those days, I would be done :p

Superman wear Jack Bauer pajamas.

I noticed it too. With all the silencer use in the episode I thought it might just be a threaded barrel.

I thought the movie "SWAT" was reasonably accurate until some old boy continues firing for 2 or 3 rounds after slidelock.

Funny stuff.

It never fails to amaze me how seriously so many gun lovers take this show. Its obviously flawed in many ways, but yes, in comparison to some other garbage it is kind of watchable. But still, a local gunshop that will remain nameless goes as far as to play all the DVD's of the show on a continuous loop. What is it that so many gun nuts find so spectacular about 24?
I heard next week, he sneaks one of those ceramic glocks through a metal detector.
I saw it, and I jumped to my feet, pointed my finger and exclaimed; IT'S OUT OF BATTERY!
My wife almost had a heart attack.

HAHAHAHA We must have done it at the same time.
I too did just what you did HV.

My wife was first surprised, then she looked at me like **** and STFD! It's a TV show.

LOL Still like the show though.
