Jack Hinson's rifle and other Civil War "sniper" rifles

The slug guns they use at Friendship look a lot like the photo of the Morgan James rifle I posted. I liked that .69 cal on that Mitchell was using. I wonder where one could have a barrel that thick produced?

crazyjennyblack - Methinks that muzzle loader in the image is from the West Point Museum (if not, then Gettysburg). I use that same image in my book (but don't have one at hand).

4v50 Gary - you got me looking for that rifle, and if it isn't the one, West Point has one very much like it. Some info on the rifle's history at this site:

Could hold ten shots within 1.5" at about 220 yards. Grouping on paper target is shown with the exhibit.

So I grabbed my book and flipped to Chapter 15. I'm wrong. It belongs in the collection of Springfield Armory National Historic Site.
