So I was cruising around on youtube, and stumbled on several video posts from James Yeager. This one I thought was the funniest.

Now, we all know that it isn't unheard of for 9mm to operate in the 30-32k psi range, and .40 has a ceiling at 35k. Most of it probably stays between 30-33k I'd imagine, unless you have it at the absolute top.

So my question is this; based on your loading habits and your chrono data (if applicable), would you consider 9mm to be "high pressure"? Given that I load mine on the healthy side with universal for reliably knocking over steel, I'd say yes. In terms of pressure, it would be closer to .40/357 SIG than .45 auto.

This isn't intended as a debate on what's best, I'm just trying to get a feel for how fellow reloaders feel about 9mm and if it's categorized as high pressure.

Yes, it is high-pressure.

SAAMI specs list 9mm at 35,000.
9mm +P at 38,500.

.40 S&W at 35,000.
.357 Magnum at 35,000.
.44 Magnum at 36,000.
10mm at 37,500.
.45 ACP at 21,000.

If 9mm +P isn't high pressure in an auto pistol round, I don't know what is.

BTW: I've noticed a very high incidence / percentage of Morons on YouTube where it comes to all things gun related.

From what I found

9mm is 34,500 psi
.40 is 37,000 psi
.357 sig is 40,000 psi

The funny part is that he's so opinionated but the "facts" aren't factual and he presents it with the attitude of "I'm right because I said I was" and "let's compare resumes". If we're blaming "high pressure" for worn out guns, and 9mm works at the same pressure as .40, the fallacy of the argument is evident. Most people probably don't give much thought to cartridge pressure, but reloaders certainly do. Having loaded and shot all 4 calibers discussed, I can't say that .40 was any worse for wear than 9 or .45. 357 seemed to be a little worse.

Glock will tell you the 40 is a High Pressure round using a heavy bullet.

This makes the round harder on a gun than the 9X19, which is a High Pressure round using a light bullet.

No comments on Mr Yeager.

I saw that video the other day also, and I thought the same thing. You'd think the guy would take 5 minutes to check wikipedia before filming an entire video on the subject.

If you REALLY wanna LYAO, watch this one at the :24 mark, where he does situps with his AK. Good stuff!

If 9mm +P isn't high pressure in an auto pistol round, I don't know what is.

And that doesn't count +P+ ammo

Official +P pressures are established by the SAAMI for certain cartridges; in general the +P pressure is approximately 10% higher than the standard pressure (see chart below). SAAMI does not have a +P+ pressure standard, but this indicates a pressure higher than the +P loading. In both cases this is below the pressure of proof test cartridge, which all firearms are required to withstand before they may be sold. Proof pressure are established by the SAAMI, as a percentage of the working pressure, so this places an upper bound on the +P+ pressures of 30–40%

Is it so wrong that I sort of hope people believe him anyway, because it means fewer .40S&W cases to sort through while scrounging for my .45acp brass?

The man doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground on a lot of things he speaks to. He's too busy playing cool guy in his own little world to ever stop and think he may just be wrong.

The first video of his that I saw on his youtube page was titled
"women are too stupid to choose their own guns"

Don't want to increase his views by watching.

Guy doesn't just come off as a tool...he comes off as the whole shop

That video about women is actually slamming guys who want to pick out their gf's or wife's gun for them. The entire point of it is to say that women should pick out their own and that they are capable of it.

Don't know much about him other than that.

In addition to my last post, I do agree with him that 40 s suck....

Oh wow. I've seen that guy before. I didn't know his name. I had hoped to avoid seeing him again. I was unsuccessful. :(
