Anyone else get the Wilson Combat Tactical Gear catalog/flyer? They have a picture of a JBT on it! Does anyone besides the ATF wear Storm Trooper helmuts?

Um, what exactly is a "storm trooper" helmet? Admittedly, the current US kevlar helmet looks quite a bit like the old German Fritz helmet, but it's only because it has the lowered parts to protect the ears.

Mine is green with a faded camouflage cover, though. Not black.

You know, they look like the ones Fritz used to wear.:neener: Maybe every tactical unit in America has gone to wearing them, but they still represent Storm Troopers to me.

Do they have a new one? THe last one I got was a pamphlet with some two-tone (OD/black) guns on it like the CQB, 870 and AR.

Several departments around here wear Fritz style helmets for riot control and SWAT type stuff.

I guess that makes the entire US Armed Forces "Stormtroopers" as that's who developed and deployes the helmet...

Ya know, if I went into my storage closet and dug through my duffel bags, I'd find the same helmet I wore in Kosovo and Afghanistan. Does that make me a JBT? If it does, cool! 'Cuz then I'd have the authority to execute a no-knock warrant on my upstairs neighbor the next time he disturbs the peace (plays his music too loud).

:D

I think it's a safe bet they're JBTs if the helmet, uniform, body armor, boots and FACE MASK are all basic black.

Or Gun Gestapo, if you prefer.

I had to flip my mini catalog over to to see it...ok back to being a coaster.
Yeah. probably more do with what is inside the helment...unless as Travis mentioned there is SS markings...

Still getting catalogs and haven't bought anything in at least 7 yrs...

Maybe it's just some guy from the knob creek show that wandered in front of a camera.

Saw some tactical blackhawk showrooms on two legs down there, some even with face paint. Even saw a guy with kneepads. Dunno why you'd need those, well.....I can think of one reason. ;)

http://www.wilsoncombat.com/ sells tactical gear. It's not unusual that they would put a model on their catalog replete in that gear. The only "thuggish" feature with his costume may be the face mask. (NOTE: I've not seen the picture in question.)

Helmets are simply intelligent headgear for a person knowingly going into harm's way.

Black apparrel is uniform, and less apparrent at night.

Knee and elbow pads are another intelligent choice for a man knowingly going into a fight.

Non-gas masks are ostensibly for protecting the identity of undercover officers from witnesses. They are, sadly, all too often worn by otherwise forthright young men and women who have a misplaced yearning to become some kind of ninja.

I agree with travis McGee. The distinction is when civilian police are dressed, act, and are armed like the miliary and, though not "undercover" cops, feel the need to cover their faces in shame when they behave badly against their own citizens. This is the "storm trooper" or "JBT" mentality.

They are only thugs if they act as thugs. If the cops are entering your home illegally to take your weapons or property without cause, they are thugs. If they are entering a residence to keep a hostage taker from killing his hostage, they aren't thugs, even if they are dressed in full SS regalia and goosestepping. Stupid for dressing that way, but not thugs.

To paraphrase our own saying "focus on the bad guy, not his gear."

"Jack Booted Thug" - NRA used the term to describe the ATF a few years back and it stuck.

Actually, Congressman Dingle (D-Michigan) described ATF that way first.

Perhaps, but the reference I remember was from Wayne LaPierre causing Bush 41 to publicly renouce his NRA membership. Maybe Wayne got it from Dingle, don't really know, but his was the one that caused the specticle

Dingle said it in the early '80s, not too long after Congress considered shutting down ATF for its gross civil rights abuses.

...Perhaps, but the reference I remember was from Wayne LaPierre causing Bush 41 to publicly renouce his NRA membership....

You will recall, I'm sure, that Bush 41 was not re-elected after this renuciation.

IMO, Bush 43 ought to think carefully about the political calculus regarding his stance on the AWB.

If the AWB is re-enacted under Bush, he will have lost my vote. Repiblicans need to learn that they cant ???? us over and expect to win the next go around.

Have any libertarian candidates stepped foreward yet?
