hey everyone,

i picked up a higgins pump action at a gun show yesterday for a hundred bucks. when i bought it, the guy didnt really know anything about it, and when i got home and shot it, it does not eject at all. If i shuck it REALLY hard, i can get the shell to pop off the bolt, but it makes no movement towards the ejection port at all. otherwise, the shell usually just sticks right to the bolt face. i dont know much about pump action shotguns, what is the problem?

25/20, I'm going to copy this thread to the Gunsmithing forum, so that it can get exposure there. But my $0.02 worth: I'd say you have an extractor and/or ejector problem. It's possible that the extractor is not getting a good grip on the shell rim: it's also possible that the ejector is broken, or even missing,so that there's no contact point to throw the shell out of the ejection port. A gunsmith should be able to identify the problem, and parts should be available to fix it.

I got an old JC Higgins pump myself, GunParts Corp (Numrich) has most parts and the list in the back of the catalog to cross reference to the actual manufacturer. JC Higgins is not the manufacturer of the gun. That was the store name for Sears I believe. What model # is it? I can check when I get home tonight and repost tonight or tommorow what I find out.

If I remember right the extractor on mine is a little flimsy looking as well but it ejects OK, if its the same model as yours.

Correct on J.C. Higgins, it was a Sears, Roebuck trade name. Most of their pump shotguns were made either by Savage-Stevens or by High Standard. Parts are available for most of the guns from www.gunpartscorp.com and if you provide the Sears model number we may be able to do the cross reference work for you.
