Just got a JC Higgins model 33, 22 cal. pump.
Nice looking gun.
It doesn't always fire or extract spent shells.
I replaced the extractor (from my model 29 parts gun)and the firing pin and still the same problem.

burrs

I don't see any burrs. A live round will drop into the chamber with no resistance.

Check the firing pin protrusion from the bolt face, as well as the spring tension. Sometimes a fired round helps the extractor hook to grab, though it shouldn't need to. Is the hook sharp, and is it free to pivot with good spring tension?

firing pin

The firing pin looks like it protrudes enough, however it looks to me like there is excessive space between primer and barrel and bolt face.
Extractor looks sharp, I even tried a different one.

Ok, the live round drops right in, but a spent round doesn't want to come out that easy. Maybe Chamber Iron is the answer.

JC Higgins 33 rimfire

Thank you for the tips everyone. I fixed the JCHiggins mod 33 pump. I trimmed (shortened) the bolt and firing pin and lightly honed the chamber. Now it works great! I really enjoy the gun, its got a great feel to it.
I have posted a lot of my 22 cal. JC Higgins model 29 parts on ebay. I decided not to fix it, just part it out.
