Well, it's been debated in the past, but the man was asked long ago and here is HIS preferred method of pronouncing his name. From the September 1943 American Rifleman.

Of course, this in no way defines whether the rifle he designed uses a magazine or clip.

He was born in St.Remi, Ile-de-Montreal, PQ. The Montreal accent would make it sound like GAH-rond. So long as you don't say "Gerrand." Gar-and/Guh-rand is the difference between which syllable is stressed in Canadian French as opposed to American English.

I watched the DVD the CMP sent with one of mine and if memory serves me correctly the family said the family pronounced their name Gay-rand. A General pronounced it Guh-rand during testing and the rest is history.
Makes me want to get mine back to the range.
