Aside from HR218 annual re-quals, I hadn’t been to a range since Covid started, shame on me.

Remedied that today with a new range annual membership and some range time. A local 25 yard indoor range has a deal for first responders, even retired.
Regular annual fee with 10-25% discount on guns, ammo, targets, plus free guests, plus unlimited range time unless there is a wait list is $250. With the discount they knock it down to $100/ year. Even if I only go once a month that’s hard to pass up since their hourly rate is $16.

When I went to shoot, they gave me a range with no one else on it, yes! No need to keep an eye on others so I don’t get shot, plus no shooting noise distraction.

I brought three handguns, a S&W 65, a Browning .22 Buckmark, and a new to me, and as yet not fired by me, antique Iver Johnson break top In .38 S&W.

All went well, found I can still shoot reasonably well, and the break top was fun, though the DA trigger pull could be used as an exercise machine to build finger strength.

Definitely have to do this more often, especially during a quiet time in the week, like today.

Reminds me of the stories about the New Orleans private eye who could only afford an Iver Johnson.

Being retired and able to shoot in the middle of the day on weekdays is nice. My Garmin chronograph is somewhat subject to crosstalk from the next narrow lane. If I want to shoot at the rental range on the weekend, I try to go in at opening time before a crowd builds up.

I was never a member of a range in central Arkansas, because the distance driving made it just to difficult to "sneak out" now and again to shoot. And the prices were high enough that I would have had to go to the range 50+ times a year to justify the cost. That wasn't going to happen.

In my new job in a town of about 12K, I can leave my office at be on the firing line inside 30 minutes. And there's definitely something to be said for getting on the range while everyone else is busy at work.

Congrats and enjoy!

(And FWIW, I'll bet that Buckmark would be an absolute hoot with a suppressor on the end!)

I had the Buckmark’s barrel threaded, thought I’d make a suppressor. But they tightened up the rules, so that won’t happen. Too cheap to spring for a stamp and a can at this point.

This range is only about 15 minutes from my house, there’s no reason why I waited this long to join. Or maybe it was one of Newton’s Laws, “objects at rest…”.

If you were anywhere near me, I'd let you shoot mine, just so you can see how fun it is.

Although we can shoot on our farm anytime we still like to go to the range we belong to.Interacting with other shooters, checking out firearms of others. And sharing a mag or a story is alot of the lure of a range. Also nice to get off the farm now and then.

I am a member of our local gunclub. Yearly dues are very reasonable @ $60 for geezers, $80 for the younger. Everyone's membership expires the last day of December and they change the lock. I intended to pass this year to see if I became able to use it again this year but about a month ago my daughter showed up with a clipboard with a sheet of paper that needed my signature. Sure enough it was my annual gun club membership and a new key. Also a message that I would be receiving a key card in the mail as we are going to a modern locking devise.

I have a Outdoor range and membership, runs $125 a year. Rifle, pistol, Clay, action bay, archery, and their might even be a Salmon river?!?!?!! it’s a Fish & Game Club.

But I kinda like indoor ranges too, if it’s cold or raining, especially to test loads. My TactiCool shop has a indoor range, and 2 free passes (unlimited time) per gun purchase. I don’t socialize there, just straight to business
