I have had this pistol for some time now and finally got around to calling Deer Creek for parts I needed for it and another one. First thing out of the box is Deer Creek has got the best people that you could ever wish to speak with. Knowledgeable, courteous, and right on top of what you need. Placed the order late Tuesday afternoon and today the parts are here. Now back to the question about the Jukar, I purchased the rear sight for the colonial and with minor buffing it seats perfect, ram rod was no issue. Guess I dropped the ball because I also needed the front sight and with my feeble mind must have just forgot to mention it. Anyway I have been looking for different views of the pistol on the NET and can not come up with a view that really shows the front sight enough to give me an idea as to if it was a blade or just a bead. I was giving thought of just using a brass brazing rod, cut to length round off the top and shallow drill and press it in. A blade type will not be that much more difficult to make just wanted a general thought as to what was proper.

Thanks that is what I thought it was suppose to look like so I broke out the soldering torch, brass rods and the most important tool THE DREMEL. Anyway after about 30min here is what I came up with. It at least looks like something rather than a barrel just hanging out in the open.

Looks pretty good. Not a good picture, but here's the OEM front sight:

Not really a blade at all, but rather a 'wedge' shape, triangular in cross section.
 
Mykeal thank you that is what I thought it looked like but getting to the point I don't trust my memory. Luckily I only mounted it with a shallow drilled 5/32 hole with a brass pin super glued in. It will be very easy to remove and remake now that I know what to make it look like.

He is right, it looks better then the original. I have a Dikar from Spain. It is the same as the Junkar, right down to the loading rod. That is what gunsmith's are suppose to do. Repair, fix and make parts and you did a good job.
 
Thanks Campbell, I was lucky as a young man having a father-in-law that took me under his wing and taught me well. I was told that anyone can do anything if they want to. I can't read worth a darn, but always been able look at something and just do it. Don't always work out first time but I will rework as needed. Junkman there has been a time or two I called the JUNKAR's but really like this one a lot.
 
I picked up a bubba'd Colonial kit last year for $40.00. I just happened to have a ten inch percussion Jukar Kentucky pistol barrel in the shop. So I am fitting the longer barrel and when the underlug annd sight are installed, I am going to turn the barrel round from the front of the stock to the muzzle. Make sort of a Queen Ann looking gun out of it.

I have an extra Kentucky pistol barrel that I have toyed around with the idea of putting it on my Colonial...just never got around to it.
 
The one thing about those Jukars is that they have a lot of wood that can still be removed to make it look like a different gun. I've seen photos here of their Philadelphia Derringer that have been made to look like a real Deringer. If you search, you can see the difference.

My front sight looks like a triangle of brass. I guess it's soldered. Don't really know.
Mine isn't exactly straight. Its at a bit of an angle.
 
Jaymo...the front sights weren't normally soldered in...they have a stud/pin on the bottom so that you just pushed it into the hole on the barrel. Most likely can be removed with a thin bladed object by sliding it under the front sight and prying upwards.
 
Thanks Bluehawk. Sounds like a good use for one of my used razor blades.
 
It is on mine Junkman...you had to tap it down lightly into the hole on the barrel.

Not that I'm aware of...made mine back around 1981...was a present for my 30th birthday and I know for a fact I did not solder it in.
 
How many times have you fired it? Eventually it WILL flip that unsecured sight out. It happens pretty regularly with the .45 Government models when the sight is not properly secured.
