What leads to the belief that it needs a new mainspring?
Did the lock reliably ignite the caps previously and the problem just started happening all of a sudden?
Perhaps the lock works are dirty or corroded and need to be cleaned up, lubricated or adjusted. If the lock plate screw is too tight then maybe that's causing the wood to interfere with the mainspring.
Or perhaps it's a combination of things that could include a bad nipple, interference with the hammer, swelling of the wood and/or poor alignment somewhere.
A mainspring can break but it wasn't mentioned that it was found to be broken.
