I swear by Gerbers when I want a quality knife, and I have a few Ontario Knife company knives, and a couple of Cold Steel too. But I picked up a couple of cheap-o chinese folding lockblades at a flea market for 5$ each.

I know they're junk, and I bought them for all the tasks around the house that you don't want to use a really good blade for if you don't have to. But I'm curious about what company made them. I mean thier junk but the are fairly hi-quality junk.

They are 51/4 inches long closed and have a tanto style point. The came in a simple whit box, with a drawing of the knife on it. The box is just labled "pocket knife" on the front, along woth "stainless blade, alum. handle, 5/4" closed." On the sides it just says "lock knife" and the number LI7022B is on the box's end. The only marking on the blade is China at the base of the blade.

If anyone can tell me about these blades I'd appreciate it. I just like to know about the knive in my collection, even the junky ones.

Welcome to the best place to discuss and learn about knives.

As to the origin of your chinese knives, china is about all your gonna get. There are 2 provinces that churn out stuff from junk to really good. It depends on how closely the quality control of the company they are making them for. Spyreco has a mean bunch people on site,

That said you have mystery steel of uknown heat treat and quality

The ONLY chinese knife I like are the ROUGH RIDERS I have been given a few, heat quality and they hold up to use, still 440 something steel but properly heat treated and sharp out the box. Made by a company called Saranumu or some thing like that.
Use your mystery knives to learn how to sharpen.

Raygunner88,

Welcome to THR.

The steel can vary, plus add the fact many mfgs have their own names for steels used.
The steel itself may change, still the same "name" is used.

Those more learned than I can better assist with what steel you may have, that said, from what I gather 420J is used quite a bit.

This steel was not really meant for knife use per se'. It is my understanding it is one of the steels used in Fantasy Edged "weapons" from swords to knives.

Also used for making props for television, and movies. Oh, some handle, and sheath makers may use it, for patterns.

Don't we all have some cheap crap knives we use for cutting things we don't wanna dull the edge on a decent knife doing? Walmart has these "Ozark Trails" folders, Chinese of course, that make decent camping folders and they're a buck, I'm talkin' ONE DOLLAR! ROFLMAO Heck, at that price ***? I have a couple I use for odd stuff, box cutting, cutting the straps off a bundle of news papers (I have a paper route in my retirement), cutting rope, and that sort of thing. No, I don't butcher or skin or field dress with 'em, I've got better knives for that.

Sometimes I wonder if some of these guys have any knife that costs less than a C note. LOL Well, I do. I'm not a knife snob, though. I use 'em, I don't collect 'em. I have one that's over 100 bucks, got for a Christmas present in 1975. It's a little big to use, but has a helluva edge, can shave my face with it. It's a Case Kodiak hunter.

I'm a bit of a knife snob, and I do collect, but I have a few junk blades that i've been given or picked up at flea markets, yard sales and such. I just like to know what I have. Sometime even junk has interesting history behind it. Besides, they are expedable.

The "Ultimate Extreme" Junk knife is...

Those 4/$1 paring knives like Wal-Mart, Target, and some grocery stores sell.

You know the ones, with chisel grind edges, and come in assorted color handles.

In my experience and <snicker> testing and evaluation:

The pea green is always sharper, with orange being the second sharpest.

Now the red and blue ones...umm...they take turns being duller than a documentary on watching bird poop on laundry hung on a clothesline to dry.

[This is more boring than watching Golf on TV...]

Dudes & Dudettes, these knives are the Ultimate-Extremest!

These are great for slipping between door and frame slip a lock open, unstuck a drawer lock, apply a fine bead of caulk, scrap stuff to clean, or prep to glue...

Tightening them screws on wall plates, slipping a lock on a window...

( you will note these are stealth lock pic sets...*snicker)

Even if you are not a smoker, still you go out "that" side door that will lock behind you...
Keep some of these inside, hidden, and just slip in metal frame, and if need, bend them.
They won't break, therefore allowing you to go out that door, and it not shut behind you.
This will not show up on in house security cameras either...
[Don't ask, just trust me on this , from both watching security cameras and watching Security, watching we smokers and ...don't ask...

Cleaning battery terminals , and if need use a pair of pliers like you are supposed to, as a hammer, and open the wedge on terminals...
anything...

Gum on your shoes, floor, kids headboard? Here is your ultimate extreme "gum- scraper- offer"

And I have not scratched the surface on the ultimate extremestness of these knives.

It was only a dollar...

Hey, what else can you buy for a $1 now-a-days?
Heck, it makes sense to spend a buck on something just for the mere fact you can buy something for a $1.

Four of these knives for a $1 , is the ultimate extreme giddy factor, neato immediate gratification , and ...and...did I mention these come in assorted 4 colors, pea green, orange, red and blue!

WE are talking Accessorizing here folks!

<the crowd screams with giddyness>

Hey, you can get a package of crackers open, mustard pack open , split a pill, stick into the slot on a Tinker Toy stick and make a axe...

These Four for a Dollar Paring knives are the Ultimatimist-Extremest Junk knives that totally Rulz !

[Why is hso and JShirley looking at me as they are?]
