I was eyeballing those Steyrs at CDNN, and just had a couple quick questions...

Is the Steyr a pistol designed for the .40 adapted to 9mm, or vice versa? and.

Does the Steyr have a steel sub-frame like the HK USP?

Chris

Did you get positive answers? I understand the .40 Steyr's are engineered as .40 from the ground up. Also, the frames have a metal support. The CDNN guns are a great buy!!

they were designed for 40S&W not .40 like glock, the chamber support is good though brass will take a ding usually on its way out. you get some muzzle rise with 180gr otherwise the recoil is manageable. federa hydra shock 135gr 40S&W feals like your firing a 9mm though its pricey and 155gr and 165 is mild at most. the 40 will feed 9mm np though never fire 9mm in a 40S&W. the M9 magazine will fit the m40 and vise versa. m40 mags will hold 13 rounds of 9mm though they are too wide for 9mm they will fly out if used. havent found a way to close them enough so 40S&W(must still feed 10 rounds of 40S&W after any modification or its illegal) and 9mm works

S&W sigma 40S&W 15 round magazines will work in the steyr with new mag catch hole in the magazine. normal capacity is 12 rounds for M40 and 14 for M9

night sites are availible. with practice you can go from finger on trigger guard to safety off and trigger pulled in 1 stroke of the finger.

the extractor will grab 9mm ammo and a caliber conversion is supposed to be possible with a barrel from canada odells engineering listed unter steyr-mannlicher.com dealer list. usasteyr.com aka diamond trail shooter supply is supposed to get caliber conversion but last I heard it was taking its time going through customs.

best price for magazines is $19.99 at cdnninvestments right now normally priced at $24.99 other stores selling them for $30-$35.

its a great pistol for the price though the coming M-A1 is going to be much nicer with the rail which is becoming standard.

also steyr-mannlicher a while back apparently sold its old building to BMW because they needed more room so they had a new building built to increase production and are ramping things up.

the sub frame is made of aluminum and is completely replaceable should frame rails get damaged. the design is pretty amazing as it does not use a single pin that goes completely through the polymer frame unlike glock, sig,S&W,so on.
all barrels have conventional rifling.

any more questions feal free to post.

Yep, but what they are asking for them, might as well just buy a whole new gun.

I forgot the price odells engineering quoted me but it was under $200usd and required paper work and couple week delay cause canada has special requirements on the barrel. customs waiting period or something forget what.
