Ok I just bought a Smith and Wesson model 57 no dash. It is pinned and Recessed, has a 4 1/4 inch bbl (think that exact measurement maybe not), Nickel plated in 100 percent as far as I could see upon close inspection. It came in the presentation Box which is immaculate. I know It was worth the purchase price of 399.99 to me and thats most important, but from a business standpoint was it a good investement or will I end up eating it when/ if i decide to sell?

No, you did VERY good on that deal. The Ruger BH OM's are usually in that price range. S&W 57's are almost never that low. Esp. for a nickle plated one as the nickle picks up every little scar. If i'ts really 100% I'd say keep it tucked away and don't shoot it much. You did very good. There's a cult following of the .41 and that's the most respected platform for it from a collector's point of view.

If you got too many, just PM me and I'll take it off your hands for what you paid for it. Not joking.
Does that answer your question?

Wow. From a California point of view, your deal is the equivalent of buying Google @ $20.00 per share.

Damn. You would not believe what pre lock/MIM N-frames are going for out here. When I say the prices people are asking AND getting are obscene, I mean they are freaking offensive.

Great deal. And yes, I am jealous.

i haven't gotten into the .41 just yet, but at that price i'd definitely have to. sweet deal. was this private party, local gun shop, big chain, internet....?

bought it at...

Believe it or not the gander mountain in Greensboro near where i live has some of these unbelievable deals on a somewhat regular basis. Meaning about 4 or 5 times a year I'll run across some of these, unfortunately I cannot always afford them. But I have found some real cherries.

Dang...and I was just there last week scoping out potential good deals!! I don't recall seeing it there, so it must've just come in. They did have a Model 19 snubbie at a pretty decent price, though.

Congrats!

Geez, why do people have to torture me with posts like, "I just bought an S&W (insert rare or desirable model here) for $23.95 and a half used tube of toothpaste, did I do ok?"

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!! WHY DO I NOT FIND THESE DEALS??!! :banghead: *sigh* [/rant]

Anyway, Congrats on a really sweet deal!

*grumble* Yeah, really. I can't find an N-frame in ANY condition for $400. Lucky sum... I mean, good buy. :D

Ill give you your money back and 50.00 for your trouble just ignore everyone else i need it (HAHAHA) GREAT BUY

You have done well for yourself. Yes, on a rare occasion a screaming deal can be had at one of the big stores.

Two years ago in a competitors place of Gander's I saw a new looking Diamondback with a partially blocked price tag where I saw "350" on the price tag. I was thinking that there would be a "1" in front of the blocked price tag that I could only see the "350". $1,350 would be about a right price for these guys. Just for yucks I asked to check it out because you don't see too many Diamondbacks around especially in a new looking condition. To my shock/delight/amazement the tag read "$350". I bought it on the spot and acted as invisible as possibe expecting someone to figure it out before I could get out of the store paying for it. Oh yeah.... the clerk also dug up the styro box with the Colt slip over plus a holster that went with it.

Being at the right place at the right time is always a good thing!

Contrary to what you have been told on this board, you got a terrible deal, not to mention that handling a magnum handgun with a nickel finish will cause you to grow hair on your palms, after which you will eventually go blind. Folks on this board are just too nice, are reluctant to speak their mind, & didn't want to hurt your feelings or scare you. The "no dash, pinned & recessed" models are the most dangerous of all. I have great experience in these matters, so ship it to me in the original box (the box has special shielding to protect unsuspecting FedEx drivers) and I will perform the necessary exorcism that will free you from the shame of a bad gun deal and expel the shiny demons from the finish. There will be no charge as pursuing evil S&W spawn is my passion. This process will only take about 100 years, after which time I will return it to you, probably showing slight evidence of the exorcism which strongly resembles that associated with normal use.

These deals do exist! I just picked up a 4" 57 no-dash that had just come in on consignment at the local shop. It was filthy and the nickel was all cloudy. I got it for $395:D

A little elbow grease and some Mother's mag polish and it looks brand new.

Keep your eyse peeled folks, there are still deals to be had.

Well, considering that you could sell it tomorrow for an additional $300 over what you paid, I'd consider that a good deal! Now, will you shoot it, or put it away in the safe?

Safe Queen...for now

Being that I'm in love with these guns and this one is spotless Im afraid it will bein the safe for quite a while and see mostly all of its daylight in presentation to friends and family. Possible will be shot a little but not much if at all.

I paid $550.00 for mine, it's nickel no dash. So I think you did real well, unl;es of course you decide it;s too pretty to shoot. I'd shoot the heck out of it. :)

did you make a buy - yep. is it a good investment - yep. it is already worth way more than you paid. every day that passes, the value goes up. in a decade, yours will be the only one for sale in the box and in that condition. then in another year, you will be kicking yourself as look what it would go for that day.

question is - how do you know when to sell??. i dont have a clue.

you have already made a nice profit, so, why worry, right. walk proudly

I bought mine to shoot! The only thing I have that just lays around in the safe is the little humidity control stick-looking thing:D

Does it count when I won a 657 and intend to use it's frame for when my 610 wears out? :) Gotta love shooting ICORE. It is THE revolver match to shoot. This year's match they gave away 70 guns for approx 200 shooters. I picked up my 657-5 the other evening.. it looks like a slightly larger version of my 610. Non-fluted cylinder, 7.5" full underlug barrel. Brass is a tad pricey and loaded ammo.. OMG!! :what:

Hey, I feel good about getting a M29, not pinned, not recessed, blued with holster wear near the muzzle, for $550. You darn near stole that gun.

WOW!!,

I have been looking for one for many years......:cuss: You are a very lucky man.
