This is a new 40 S&W scandium, 25oz, 7+1 single stack compact. It is thinner and a tad lighter (loaded) than my Glock G30. It is da/sa and is very comfortable in the hand. I just paid for it today and must wait the obligatory CA 10 days before I can redeem it. I hope it shoots as good as it feels. Has anyone had any experience with this gun? If not, I'll fill ya all in about 10 days from now.

Congrats! I've been thinking about one ...

When I was talking to someone at the factory the other day he said they'd been shipping them since November, so somebody's got to have one, somewhere ...

When I asked if there was any chance they would release a 4040PD with a stainless slide, I was told that the "PD" pistol series is only intended to be produced with blue carbon slides ... and I mentally sighed ... but then he casually said that a stainless steel slide, because it's stainless and not blue carbon steel, could only be available on a model produced outside the PD lineup ... such as a 4040. :scrutiny:

Does that mean there WILL be a 4040 (non-Personal Defense model)?

We didn't have time to talk any further ...

Now, I wonder if he was merely explaining why a stainless steel slide couldn't be on a PD series pistol ... or whether a 4040 stainless/brushed scandium aluminum frame is in the wings ...

Sigh ... :banghead:

Great compact gun. Had a chance to fire mine recently and it functioned flawlessly and is more accurate than I am ...

... having it in stainless would be even better.

Why do you guys do this to me? This pistol has been in the back of my mind for some time now, but I was trying to hold out for a 9mm version which may yet be lighter (22-23 ounces ?) and have one more round capacity. I've only got one other .40 cal., a Glock 27, and was trying to stay with 9's and .45's. But I've had that gun buyin' Jones lately and this is REALLY tempting. I'm starting to feel addicted to these Smith pistols having bought 3 in less than two years.

There IS a 9mm version ...

... but it's a TSW model in stainless. By the way, a .357SIG version of the 4040PD is coming out soon :)
