Sweet! I bought a WASR-10 this weekend and took it to try out.

Vertec - I had recently ordered a Novak low rear sight for my Beretta from LTT. I ordered a sight that should have been the same height as my stock one (.298) but got a .290 in the mail. I put it on and tried it out today. It was the same at 7 yards. I don't know about longer ranges yet.

WASR-10 - I have to be honest. I went expecting the worst. I had read about trigger slap, canted front sights and gas tubes and problems with hi-cap mags being loose. Well the only thing I ran into was a little trigger slap but it wasn't that big a deal. I wish I had a digital camera because I shot about a one and a half inch group at 25 yards and a slightly larger one shooting as soon as I got on target after each shot. I'm very happy with this rifle!

A couple next to me accidentally shot their stand and messed it up beyond using so I loaned them mine while I shot at the 25 yard bank. I'm glad I did that because they were starting to pack up and leave and hadn't been there that long. I took my time between mag reloads and target changes so they wouldn't be hurried.

Anyway, sorry for running long, but man I had a good time!

Trigger slap in the AK family is caused by a "hump" on the disconnector that is unnecessary in a semi-auto only AK action. The hump on the disconnector is meant to engage other fire control parts that exist in the full-auto military version. This hump impacts the trigger when the bolt cycles causing trigger slap.

When Century International Arms made the drop-in US parts to be import compliant to turn the WASR-10 into a double-stack standard capacity legal rifle, they copied the full-auto disconnector without a thought to how it would work in a semi-only rifle.

Linx310 who usually hangs out at gunsnet.net has an excellent page on Eastern Europe import AK's. The page also has clear instructions on how to remove the hump on the disconnector with about 5 minutes with a file or a dremel.

I'm trying to find someone to pay lots of money to for an arsenal SLR101, but i've been having incredibly bad luck finding one.

I have a Century WASR-10 hi-cap and it has little to no trigger slap. Of course, I was wearing Nomex shooting gloves, so that may have made a difference :).

Oops, I just pulled his URL out of Google. Didn't know he put himself under gunsnet's domain. Thanks for the follow-up Mulliga.

My WASR 10 also experiences little trigger slap, but MY SAR-2 in 5.45x39 it's pretty bad. I have it more as a curiosity though, so I don't shoot it a lot, and haven't gotten around to grinding down the disconnector with my Dremel yet...
