It looks fairly straight forward. I am applying as an individual. Any pitfalls I should look out for when filling out my application?

I seem to have done a 180 degree turn. I would never join an organization or apply for a license because I didnt want to be on a "List". I have recently decided my thought process was flawed and we all need to band together. I have joined the NRA, a local gun club and now applying for my C&R. Has anyone else had such a change of heart?

I just got my renewal C&R FFL. It took less than 3 weeks from the time I mailed the application. I didn't know if they would give me a renewal because I haven't bought any firearms with the first one in the 3 years I've had it. I have taken advantage of the discount from Midway and Brownells several times, though.
As far as having a change of heart, no. I have been an NRA member for 15 years, and I used to have an FFL back in the early 90's.

A K31 and a M98 are first on my list.... Thanks. I just finished filling out the application. I will get it in the mail tomorrow. I have heard everything from 2 weeks to 6 months. I really have no idea how long it averages but I am not in a big hurry:D

Scot - apparently the wait time varies wildly by region, I'm in SW Ohio also and its been five weeks now since they received my application. It seems as if some guys in the South are getting theirs in two weeks.

Mailing mine tomorrow Scott, to Atlanta. Want to pick up a Swedish Mauser and a handgun or two. Maybe an SKS. Good luck to you.

My "joining" urge seems to parallel yours.

ON the CLEO question. Does anyone know if they want the township or county CLEO. It is not clear on the application.

Thanks again
Scot

I just sent my application to Atlanta last week. I never applied before b/c I thought it was going to be a lot of paperwork, but as you can see, it is a simple form. I thought it was straight forward and self-explanatory except for the parts where it asks for your "position" or "title", I just put collector. That and the section where you list former addresses could have used a little more space on the form. Of course I don't have my license yet so I don't know if I could advise to pitfalls yet.

Somewhere in my mind I am conscious of being put on a "list", but my desire for mail order E. German Makarovs and K31s was the overriding factor in this decision.

Scott - I sent the CLEO copy to the Chief of the Township PD where I live, I think the sheriff would have been appropriate also.

The application is not real specific about it. I will just use the county sheriff. Thanks again.

I was told to send it to the agency that would show up if I call 911.
In my case that is the county sheriff.
That is who will get mine next week.

I've had my C&R for exactly 1 year.Hopefully you have more control or money than me.In that time I've purchased 14 Mil-Surps. 2 M38 Mosin-Nagants,5 Brit Enfields,2 Swiss K-31 Schmidt Rubins,2 Yugo SKS,1 Yugo Mauser,1 Turk Mauser and a VZ-52 Czech Pistol.
My wife is undecided on whether to divorce me or have me commited.I've promised to stop and enter rehab as soon as I complete my next purchase a Steyr M95 in 8x56R Hungarian which I just have to have.A great carbine ,it weighs only about 7 lbs.
Also I've have had to figure out ammo and gun storage so have purchased 2 great Winchester safes from Sam's Club each holding 24 or so rifles and assorted paraphanalia.Steals at only $595.00 each!
And my son-in-law has become deceased and is rapidly building his own M-S arsenal. So my daughter is not pleased either
So you can't say you havn't been warned about this insidious ,addictive ,but wonderful 'hobby'.
Perhaps you should shred that license up when it arrives.
Then again you'll miss out on all the fun we're having.
While we're still loose.

I went to our Sheriff's office and asked if he was the CLEO, and he said, YES - this is the place. We are rural and have no town police. I guess the state police don't want to be bothered with this kind of paperwork!

How long did it take you guys to get the forms (not the license!) after ordering them? I ordered mine from the ATF website 2 weeks ago and haven't gotten them yet. Should I call them?

just got approved for my 01FFL last week, license coming in the mail. CLEO: sherriff for me, not in city limits. almost didn't get approved because my county leaders did not want people going in and out of my driveway buying guns. this is rural FL, hunters everywhere, assured them my in-home business would be discreet. easiest part was the meeting with ATF agent. / Almost did the c&R but decided if was going through all this hassle wanted the real thing

Mustang - I plan on calling after 60 days have passed, from previous threads on this and other forums its not uncommon for it to take up to 90, and you are almost there if they charged your card on Jan 16; but some guys have said they got the license pretty quickly after making a few calls - the squeaky wheel approach.

strat81 - I couldn't figure out how to order the forms from the website so I called and had them in about a week.

Holy moly, I just called them for the forms... Why can't they hire people who speak C-L-E-A-R-L-Y???? The ATF certainly isn't the only offender. I've spoken to tech support reps from India that speak clearer than some of these people.

The phone number I called was 866-662-2750. They only have the toll number on the website: 404-417-2750.
