Just got my Les Baer

However, when purchasing guns there are so many choices these days, personal experience is my way of narrowing my selection down. Everyone I have talked to has told me to just put a few more hundred rounds through it and it will smooth out, but with ammo availability and pricing, I can't justify spending my time and money hoping it becomes reliable.

That is all you can really do... Ive owned many guns that worked but hated and loved but didnt work... It is what it is. I will agree with you though, 1500rd and it should already be perfect and shouldnt need more "breaking in" something is wrong or the springs prematurely failed. I dont make excuses for any gun no matter the name on the slide..

Good Luck

I have a friend who is aware of my problems and he is going to buy the gun at a greatly reduced price and try his luck with it.

Tell your friend to send me an e-mail, it's probably a rather simple fix to get it running right. What I don't understand is why didn't you take it back to the shop you bought it from. They could have shipped it back to Baer for $20.

I doubt it is a simple fix since Baer has already had it back and then I let a local gunsmith look at it. I've been shooting 1911s for quite some time and never had those problems. I checked extractor tension, tried new springs, checked for burrs, and tried new magazines. Local gunsmith said it was too damn tight to start with and he believed there was little room for error with fouling. He said after 1500 rounds it should be fairly smooth. While he isn't a pistolsmith guild member, he's been fixing and building guns for a long time. He wanted to do some filing and I didn't want too. I found it new in a gunshop while traveling and had it shipped to a gunshop in my state. It would cost me just as much to ship it back to them and they would just ship it back to Baer. Beleive me, I tried my best to like the gun, but at some point you have to stop.
