Geez I sure do like living in the hood. Never short on action!!!

Just right quick the perp/perps didnt actaully attempt entry but one of them sure considered it and note that the chrono of these events might be off a bit, I was paying more attention what was going on than to what was happening if you get what im trying to say.

So first I tell the story as its fresh then i will state the lessons learned.

Its about o dark 3 ish 30 and im still up because im a night owl, have a crappy schedule and was watching Conspiracy Theory on the couch in the living room{yeah the one with Mel Gibson, good flick} and I here tires screeching. I placed it up on the highway.

Getting closer, now I hear the faint wail of sirens. The screeching makes its way onto my street and I figure there is a solid chance that said vehicles screeching tires are going to turn into my APT's.

So what do you know ERRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! just as im doing a press check on my mini-14 the vehicle pulls into my APT's makes a left and stops just in front of my dads truck about 35 feet away from my window{more on how I know that later} just about as im killing the light and the tv I hear the rocks in front of my window crunching, fence being jumped, the sound of someone in the bushes.

WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP in the near distance

Now there is a person silloueted in my kitchen window seemingly deciding on coming threw it or to di-di on out of there. I rack the bolt on the mini {yes, round WAS chambered as I indicated with the press check}to let em know its not the best idea:D and said person stops dead in there tracks whilst person in the sticker bushes continues to thrash around.

Im in a crouched shooting position front sight on the person standing in front of the window when said person takes off{wise move on his part as I really didnt want to shoot anyone but was pretty damn ready too} too the left of the window. Note the fence line and the sticker bushes and what not are to the right of the kitchen window from inside my APT.

I hear a round chamber in my dads room and figure hes in the game now as well with his GLOCK so I move to the hallway and knock on his door letting him know what up and where the threats are. "yeah man I know theyre right f***ing there dude" as he unlocks his door. He goes back to his shooting position night sights trained on the window{ I was right behind him at this point} I head back into the hallway switching the mini-14 for my shotgun. I figure something a little more APT forgiving with it being loaded with birdshot for the first couple rounds might not hurt and chamber a round as I take up a crouch in the hallway.

I scurry over and open my door, now every possible entrance is visible. Back into the T of the hallway back aginst the bathroom door. Douchebag in the sticker bushes it still making a bunch of noise and who knows where the other douchebag has ran off too. The whoop whoop of the cops trying to lure them out is getting closer. Its now time to call the fuzz and let em know where these guys are at.

Of course the phone has been left off the charger and is dead. Just great, just frickin great. Screw it back to my postition, more thrashing, seems the cops are joining in on the show. Now we are both at my dads bedroom window. " over there guys to the right, to the right". Police dog is barking, they have one of them.

That was enough to lower the ol' deafcon level. I go open the blinds up at the kitchen window to observe the show. Like TV but better, lots of "you had better come out or the dog comes loose". Lots of back and forth searching by the cops. Maybe an hour or so goes by. Now I want to know whats the what so I head out to talk to the cops and see a white truck parked at an agle right next to my dads truck. Stolen I figure, one of the cops confirms it. Stolen car chase, they bailed out here.

At this point they had caught one of the perps. A female, turns out her male counter part is still out there. Keep an eye out for anyone shredded up from the sticker bushes or for that matter anyone wierd out of place ECT ECT. "sure man, good luck" as I head back in.

So here is what I learned.

1. No such thing as too well prepared. When touble makes an entrance it wont be on your time. You WILL be caught off guard most likley and will have to act accordingly. I was real glad to have another weapon stashed in a handy spot as I ended up swapping it for what I had and it would have been real handy had I been taking a leak or something half asleep, I might not have had a chance to get to the mini-14 out in the living room had things been diffrent.

2.Having a K.I.S.S plan on what to do under duress is highly important.
Im glad we both knew just what to do and neither of us were fuddling or fumbling around trying to figure out what to do or the like. That made it safer for all involved, inlcuding the dumbass trying to get him/herself shot.

3. Murphy{as in murphys law of fame "that which can go wrong will go wrong" } is a mother and will rear his ugly head when he sees fit, not you.
The phone being dead may have not mattered in the end but it sure was a problem when it happened and could have been worse had the situation been taken a turn for the same.

4. Staying calm and using your head is pretty damn important and something you need to remind yourself of sometimes. Your naturall fight or flight instincts tend to cloud your mind. I think being having been through crap like this before and other types of stuff was a distinct advantage in staying level headed.

5. Once agin, when something happens you are either going to be ready or not and will have to act accordingly either way. Having a flexible, well rounded home defense plan is the way to go.

Wow - crazy stuff!

Never know when you're life is gonna take a crazy turn.

There's been a few times helicopters are actively searching for badguys around my neighborhood. Spotlight searching the area, and a loudspeaker announcing the suspects appearance. I just make sure the door is locked, but never a close call like you had..

One thing - to play devil's advocate - is it smart to aim at the guy before he has actually come into your house? I'm just thinking of the possibility of an AD and/or the guy in the window being a cop/undercover cop that you can't identify clearly.

The one thing that I would like to make note of here (in red, above). . . . .
The act of opening the blinds COULD HAVE been dangerous, for YOU.

There was an incident near here, where a police officer was investigating a sound in HIS OWN HOME, and another police officer was OUTSIDE of this LEO's home.
The police officer in his own home was SHOT DEAD by the LEO outside.
You see. . . the police officer (in his home) was armed and walked past a window that had the shades/curtains open and the LEO responding to a 'house breaking' call, saw the armed guy inside. . . . and proceeded to shoot him, when he didn't "Freeze" when ordered to.

To clarify, the police officer in his own home worked for another organization, in another jurisdiction than the LEO that was outside of this police officer's home. They did NOT know each other.

lol, been saying damn this crap is getting old, we gotta move..... for years now. Like when my at the time neighbors cousin was gang-raped in the at the time vacant APT across from mine, that was a real :uhoh: Now its actually going to happen pretty soon though.

This is also like the second or third time we have had this happen in front of the APT in the middle of the night. Dont know why the always pick here to run but they do :cuss:

All kinds of other good stuff goes on in my APT's too. I remember when they cops came and took an illegaly owned full auto AR15/M16 off someone. There was a big dea/local's joint drug bust one time, they were taking POUNDS of stuff out of these guys APT and according to one of my neighbors{ex cop or something} it wasnt coke and it wasnt weed. I figure it must have been crystal meth or Her'on. All kinds of "good" stuff.

I actually thought of that AS I was taking my sight picture, I made a point to flick the saftey ON and to remember to keep ma damn booger hooker of the bang switch as it tends to be my naturall proclivaty to shoot first, and MAYBE ask questions later:evil:.

I also wasnt going to consider shooting unless the perp had really gotten in and not just tried. I figure a healthy dose of WHAT AND THE :cuss: DO YOU THIINK YOU ARE DOING, YOU WANNA DIE SCUMBAG would have been enough of a deterent to stop an attempted breach but who knows.

byf43, By then I had put down/stashed the weapons and they knew we were the "home owners" im sure as we were giving them there locations and what not from the bedroom window. A bright eyed kid in his boxers with a "not this crap agin" look on his face pointing to the fence and where I heard em jump it prolly didnt seem like much of a threat but that is a good point and im glad I had the forethought to put down my weapon before I did that.

Yeah time to stop trying to find more firearms and just look for a good real estate agent :D

soon my friend, soon. My dads buying a nice hunk of land out in the boonies and then were out of here. Shouldnt be too long at all. I figure the city is always gunna be here along with my friends and fam'. When I feel like it ill come back join the rat race and get an apartment or rent out a house with some friends but I think I might give the country living a try for a while. See what its like, feed the cows, ride a horse around and play john wayne with SAA.

We lived in the city for some time and got tired of the crime and bass. BOOM...BOOMBOOM.. gets really old when its 1am and we have to go to work at 6am. So, we bought a house out in the country and have not looked back. All we hear now is an occasional 4 wheeler and a few gunshots but those are mine!!

Sounds like a good thing all around. You used your weapons effectively and no shooting was needed.

I remember the bass tones. Only happened once while I was in an apartment. An apartment 2 doors down was having a party and playing that dance music crap. All I could hear was the bass. I am not real sure what woke me up though, the music or the neighbor between banging on the wall.

ahhhhhh. an effective use of firearms... intimidation. works most if not all of the time.

That is a great point. I had a similiar experience but unfortunately (or fortunately) the cause of the noise to the sliding back door of my home was not discovered. But when I grabbed my Glock and hit that Lasermax pulsating red dot (that actually seems like a flashing flashlight in darkness) and went down the house everything went quiet and I didnt find anything :(

BUT I think that the dehabilitating effect that someone knows that they are about to be shot has alot to do with their motivation and risk. :D You did the right thing. Maybe throw a laser on that bad boy so if someone thinks for a second the situation is not dire... they are quickly corrected by intimidation... or you just get a good shot off at their vitals :D

You did it all wrong, Sarah Brady would be pissed. Did you at least try making coffee and inviting them in. He was probably just going to knock on your window and ask to use your phone so he could turn himself in. /sarcasm

You did well, good plan, good execution and best of all no shots fired. BTW were the cops receptive to you using the presence of a firearm to deter this invasion? I dont know where in WA you are but I am guessing a pretty rural area which hopefully means gun friendly LEO's

Always have a WIRED phone in addition to any cordless you may have. They don't need batteries or a 110 outlet to work.

Good advice. You don't know how screwed you are without one until a major storm hits, power's out, cell phones are out, and you don't have a standard phone, which the neighbors say is still working.

Good outcome. Nice level of preparedness. Nice work.
