Week before last I started a thread asking about what rifle caliber I should choose and with suggestions and advice I decided on 7mm08. I wanted a 24' barrel and had a budget of $550 rifle only. I chose the Weatherby Vanguard Series 2. Its just the standard synthetic stock and matte blue finish. I'm excited about it I've never shot a Weatherby but I have held then and they have a natural feel to me. Plus the accuracy guarantee is an added bonus. Does anybody have any experience with them do they shoot well and how is the fit and finish also how does the trigger compare to other factory triggers...specifically how does the trigger compare to a Tikka trigger.

I believe the Vanguard is a Howa? One of the finalists I considered in my recent 7mm 08 purchase. I went with a lightly used Tikka T3 Lite, but I still think you did well.

Most I've seen online has been positive...if I can get an accurate hand load for it and the trigger is nice I will enjoy this rifle. I got a smoking deal on it from my local LGS too.

Great to hear. I am sure you will be happy with it. The MOA guarantee is pretty sweet.

7mm08 is my second choice for my next rifle just behind the 308. I really think the little 7 would meet all my future needs (except a big bear hunt).

Enjoy!!

I believe you will be quite pleased with the 7-08. I just got my first one, after being a diehard .308 fan for 45 years, tho mine is on the Ruger hawkeye A/W, not a Weatherby. I usually rotate my rifles when I hunt, really for no other reason than to enjoy them all, but since I got the 7-08, I've found some reason to take it every time.

I recently got a virtually new Weatherby sub-MOA in 7mm Rem Mag. Everything about the rifle is perfect and I really like it. It is a great hunting rifle and also fun to plink with...

And your not going to be shooting a Weatherby, but a japanese made(Howa) rifle made for Weatherby.

Yup, they are pretty popular round here. If it's a 'new' production Vanguard the accuracy will be there, providing you find the ammo your particular rifle likes.

Most, or I should say around 97% of the ones we set-up are really great shooters, many will shoot 3/4" or better, if only slightly.
The triggers have been nice, but somewhat on the heavy side, with a few early in the year we had bad triggers but saw no more like that latter on.
I think you might like a Tikka trigger a bit better, to me the Tikka trigger just seems to feel better.

As for f&f, comparable to say an Axis, maybe a late production 16/116 Savage. The blue is nice, better than some 'expensive' rifles.
