I just got a bayonet for my Mauser, there's numbers on both sides of the blade.

One side is 4749 with an m under it, the other side is 43asw. Anyone have a place to look up info on the bayonet?

Thanks!

Found another site, asw was one of the manufacturers, 43 was the year made. 4749 is probably the serial number. The sheath has KVZ 1943, so that would match the date on the bayonet.

Generally, bayonet and scabbard were delivered together by the bayonet maker, but the bayonet maker might not have made the scabbard. FWIW, there has been a lot of fakery on German WWII bayonets, including complete reproductions. Just another area where the motto is "buyer beware", and it is possible to spend a lot of money on fakes. (The worst area is probably "SS daggers", another edged weapon.)

ASW = WWII German Ordinance Code assigned to E. & F. Horster & Cie., Solingen Germany.

The KVZ Code is not listed in my book.
