kaboom question

I have seen several kaboom threads on here recently and was curious about something. I have seen kabooms mentioned for both pistol and revolver but it seems revolvers are mentioned more often.

Is there a particular reason for this?

Probably because the revolvers come in the calibers that attract the recoil junkie's.

A lot of revolver cartridges also started out as or are based on black powder cartridges. This means there's a whole lot more room in the case to put in way too much powder.

Revolvers can handle higher pressure loads, and some of the folks that handload for them like to hotrod 'em. Also it seems like a lot of people that reload are into revolvers in general, and if a reload has the wrong amount of powder, wrong type of powder, bullet setback, etc. a kaboom will occur. A simple error can blow up a gun, whether it's a revolver or not.

its multiple reasons that cause them.

factory +p in in older revolvers
too much powder
wrong size projectile
.38spl & .357 confusion
wrong powder
progresive reloading errors

there are so many causes but If I was to put it in rough numbers 97% operator caused & 3% mechanical issues

simply put too many idiots

very true, no argument but generaly revolvers have heavier loads(higher pressures) which makes the mistakes a little more common.

Revolvers also have a tendency to have less between your body parts or the operator is more likely to be hurt. The possibility of the barrel and the cylinder not being in alignment is not present in semi-autos.

crazy4milsurps comment is correct. 97% operator caused. If you have a modern and high quality gun, do regular maintenance, and use high quality factory ammo, you will probably never have the issue.

I would think that more reloaders do so for revolvers as opposed to semi-autos, that's just my guess. Hence, the percent of overloading for revolvers is more prevelant. JMO

I wonder if this is true.. it seems there are many, many auto oopsies also.
gp911, revolvers don't setback upon firing, they can creep forward though and then tie up the cylinder.

Good point certaindeaf, I mixed my malfunctions there.
