Kahr CW45 my custom work.

Just thought I would show you guys my Kahr CW45 that I've done a little work on. I polished up the entire barrel/guide rod assembly, magazine and the slide latch. I added the fiber optic sight awhile back. If you want to see the real difference just google a pic of a standard cw45.

Two of the main weaknesses of the CW series are its front sights and sharp slide stop release. It looks like you turned them in to strengths--good work!

How tough was it to dehorn/melt the slide stop?

I did the same thing to my CW9 but made it all mirror finish....bling.
When I get the nerve, I'm going to melt the slide and then get it refinished in black.

Fortunately the slide catch is injection molded and not machined, meaning the metal is a little softer and easier to remove. All I did was use a buffing wheel with some very hard compound and rolled the edges after a little while it just smoothed right down!

Normally I avoid the end of the barrel where it's fitted to the slide. But I do the rest just like that. That front sight is going to make a huge improvement. You may want to eventually stone it down thinner and reblue for longer ranges/smaller target courses.

Looks great! But my CW9 has never giving me a reason to do anything to it but shoot it. They're about perfect from the factory for a CC weapon

Yes the front sight is MUCH better than factory, target aquisition with this is unbelievable it is virtually a 'point and shoot' operation. I plan on installing a Dawson Precision serrated rear sight that is tall like a target sight to go along with the front. I have always liked the fiber optic front/serrated plain rear sight combo.

Nice looking pistol. Is that the original recoil spring guide rod? It looks like it's also stainless steel in the photos.

I seriously considered turning a TP45 into a "covert" by cutting the grip down, the theory being it would be very concealable and have a potent 4" barrel. I just never took to the gun that well though, (I settled on a P9 instead).

No this is the original guide rod. It had a black coating of some sort it might have been really thin bluing. A wire wheel took it right off and then I polished it.
Personally I think the CW45 is the best sized .45 to carry it fits well in the hand and the barrel is long enough to provide good accuracy.

I'm a tad late....

in my response but that is absolutely beautiful work. I have a CW45 and a CW9 that I carry in Mitch Rosen slide holsters. Both are excellent shooters but sure not to be used as range guns if you have arthritic hands! I suspicion though in a defensive situation, hand pain would be the least of my worries.......wish my two looked as nice as yours!

Officer's/Compact size 1911 magazines can be modified to work in the CW45?p45 platform. I decided to run Kahr internals in mine to make sure the slide locks back, but proper feeding was never an issue with the magazine's original internals. Some others have reported that certain MecGar, Kimpro, and Chip McCormick magazines have internals that can be made to lock the lock the slide back reliably.

I know it's an old thread, but I had to post up here.

I just did this modification to a cheap 10rd pro-mag 1911 mag I have, and though I had to take a bit more material off compared to the pictures, and also had to trim the front corner of the feed lip where it bends inwards and the front edge of the follower as well, but I've now got a fully functional 10rd magazine for my CW45.

I haven't fired the pistol with the 10rd mag yet, and I'm probably going to have to do a bit more minor tweaking once I do, but I'm relatively pleased with the results.

Anyone tried grip-chopping their CW45 to fit PM45 mags yet? I'm thinking that would be the next logical step towards greater concealment, and will still be able to use the longer magazines.
