My Kahr Mk9 is usually extremely reliable. However, I have had 2 recent jams in which the empty casing did not clear the ejection port. These were not stove pipe jams. In both cases, the empty case was blown straight back and was caught between the barell and the slide parallel to the barrel.

Both jams occurred with Federal 9BP standard pressure 115 gr. jhp loads. This is the most reliable round I've used in other 9mm pistols. I'm wondering if the Kahrs prefer higher pressure rounds as I've never had such problems with +P. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Jeff,
How many rounds have you shot through the gun?
I had over 500 rounds through mine when I traded it for a PM9.
I've got almost 1000 rounds through the PM9, with no problems.

I believe the springs need to be changed somewhere around 2000-3000 rounds.

At any rate, I'd give Kahr a call.

mini14jac: I've got 700-900 rounds through it. I'll give Kahr a call.

I bought a well used mk9 once and the kahrshop told me to replace the recoil spring at around 1000 rounds, I did and it functioned perfectly after that.....tom

What denfoote said.

The MK9 double recoil spring takes on a lot of stress. It should be replaced often.

I don't believe in sending thousands of rounds through small guns. Just enough to stay familiar with their operation. The tolerances of these little pistols are such that they just are not as robust as bigger autoloaders.

Get a Glock 17 if you want to shoot a lot. Last time I checked, Chuck Taylor has put over 180,000 rounds through one.

Save your MK9 for carry.

P7, let us know what happens.

As for shooting little guns, my opinion is, if they can't take the shooting, I don't want them.

As I've approached 1000 rounds in my PM9, I have become amazingly accurate (for me) with this small gun.
If I need to replace the springs at 1000 shots, then so be it.
That means I spring for springs :D :p  every 1-2 years.
It's worth it for a gun that is small, accurate, and reliable.

As far as shooting the MK guns, as they are all steel, (no alloy) they should, in theory, outlast a Glock.
(What did he just say? Send out the death squad!) :p
