The OP really doesn't request a huge debate on all 50 state's worth of gun laws guys.

"Those of you who do have a truck gun, where do you store them when driving and when you leave the vehicle?"

Let's try to help the guy out with what he wanted to know and stick to the question please!

In addition to this as I understand a shockwave when concealed becomes a destructive device,

It does not.
A pistol grip firearm that expels a shotgun shell if concealed on the person becomes an AOW .....Any Other Weapon.

and in many states (including mine) any gun in a vehicle is considered concealed.

So a shockwave in a vehicle is apparently a destructive device.

Not under federal law. To be an AOW it must be concealed on the person.

I’ve often wondered how we are supposed to get it home.

I don't have a true "truck gun" just my CCW. Seems to me that a legal length shotgun would be a bit unwieldy in those close quarters. But, a Glock 23, with 13, .40 caliber helpers can be manipulated much more easily if in need.

If there are laws against carrying loaded long guns in vehicles then there are a bunch of us good ole boys here in SC with gun racks in our back windows breaking the law.

I dunno, I've never been pulled for doing it and I've been doing it since the 60s.

Now, with that said our new open carry law just kicked-in today so we're allowed to open carry if we have a CWP .... which allows us to quit worrying about printing, which is always a good thing. Plus our permits are now free, no charge. Another good thing for sure.

It's the way of the future dontcha know.

My Son has this magnet thingy that he uses under his dash to stow his Mossey 500 Cruiser. It must be pretty strong because it's a 7 rounder plus a side-saddle so it's not exactly light weight but it doesn't jiggle and it survives this bumpy dirt road we live on when he comes to visit. And what I like about it is that it's hidden up under there and it didn't require any drilling to install.

Hehe, yes I knew I could keep it in my truck in Texas. The conversation is polite so I do not mind it ... absolutely love the users here. I had some lingering questions about how risky it would be to leave in the car and for how long (grocery store stop vs parking overnight at a friend's house). I think I'll generally only keep it in the truck when I am with it.

I am also interested in scabbard type holsters I could put in the cab.

I still need to shoot mine at my next range visit ... I am just exploring options on how to make use of it.

Requiring a permit, concealed carry license, or LTC/CCW/CHL?
In Texas unlicensed persons could have a handgun in their car as long as it WAS concealed or not in open view.
Typically, laws concerning concealed firearms pertain to handguns and firearms concealed on the person.
Otherwise, being in a box or case equals carrying concealed.

I also keep a collapsible baton and a USMC Kabar under my
seat and a gas mask in my trunk. I like to be prepared to
"express myself" when required...

Truck guns were more important before my state issued ccp.

I have used all types of firearms as truck guns. The most useful and most used for me has been a good old. 22 pistol in the console.

I like this a lot and am going to look into it. The main concern I have with it is if you are talking to an officer and he asks where the gun is and you have to say pointed at your chest lol, that would be awkward. You could mention it was not chambered at least. I will look into how I could do this in my own truck.

That actually happened once. Generally officers approach and stay behind the drivers left shoulder. This one, and others, were blocking the road way and came up from the front. I kept my hands at 10&2 and just pointed up with my thumb and looked up when he asked about firearms in the vehicle. He bent down and said, “Oh.” As be backed up a step. Never did figure out what they were after, just told me to move on.

AR-9 8” 24” head to tail and fits in a discreet looking bag that slides under(mostly) the seat if I’m leaving it in the truck. Sometimes I’ll leave it vertical behind the seat with a “dirty” towel draped over it.
