I know there is a FL state law that recently passed that protects employees from being told by employers that they cannot keep firearms in their cars, however I cannot find the actual legal verbage. Oddly enough I am a member of the Human Resources department of the company I work for, recently a resident nearby has gone off the deepend and claims we are molotov cocktailing, shooting into and trespassing on his dwelling as well as stealing his cats, blowing up his vehicles and stealing his mail (he is certifiably nuts) The Sheriffs office has made many visits to his house but to no avail. Lately the gentleman has been standing outside the property with knives, bats, and machetes and even tried to stop vehicles from pulling into the parking lot. He is on his property so Law Enforcement does nothing. My HR manager has advised me and our security team to make employees aware that we are to call 911 anytime we feel unsafe, but also to remind employees that firearms in our vehicles is against company policy and will result in immediate termination.

Please help me so that I can take the law to my manager and help me protect the 2nd Amendment of the employees.

Thanks.

Whip out your phone and catch some video/pics.

Also, your company has no right to detain you or search your vehicle. The company may terminate you for refusing a search (they can terminate an employee for many reasons), BUT they can't search your vehicle by force.

I personally don't like the idea of firearms left in vehicles. I take mine everywhere, but I work in a capacity where I carry mine, and there is no place I can't take it.

The law gives some exceptions... It exempts business or government thay conduct business related to defense or national security. That's kind of vague, and not to get into too mucu detail but i work for a contractor of Dept of State that provides armored protection for dignitaries and VIPs. But the building I work in is solely the business side of it...recruiters, BE, finance, management....

Does this apply as one of the exceptions to the law? Yes, we do in facy provide q " product " that relates to security / defense, but not out of or in that building. So would I still be safe to carry my gun in my car.

Not that its Fort Knox, but my gun left in my vehicle is locked in a "safe box" that's locked to the frame of my seat

Florida is a at will hire state.

They can fire you for anything anytime(not race/sex/disability related).

Keep a gun in your car = not breaking the law but will not allow you to keep your job if they find out or if you use it.

If I were you I would take it a step further and get my CCW(if you havent already) and buy a very very small .380 to CCW at work.

Once again you are risking your job but by not doing so risking your life.
