Hi everyone I have been digging through various posts about advice for carrying weapons into and out of Maryland. I am set to go on a business trip there for 2 months. Typically I go to a location for 2 months, work there, and return home for a couple days before I fly out again. If my next location is some place like Chicago or another absurdly strict gun control area I leave my concealed carry weapons at home before I fly out again. This time my company is flying me directly from my current location which honors my permit, to Baltimore Maryland which does not. As such, I do not have time to fly home and drop off my carry weapon. I keep it in a hard back case with 3 pad locks which have been quite satisfactory for traveling through airports.

Upon reading the law I took away from it that unless I am going to a shooting event/moving my collection or traveling through the state to go to an event in a different state, or have a permit from Maryland, then I am not allowed to transport my weapon regardless of it being unloaded and secured. Secured meaning, an unloaded weapon with unloaded and separate magazines and ammunition in secured boxes that are inside the same locked case as the gun. Am I reading the law wrong or have things changed? If I can bring it with me it will go straight from the airport to my temporary apartment (I bring super thick cable padlocks in the case to padlock it to the underside of the bed frame in my room) and will remain unloaded and locked in the case for the entirety of the trip. I would then transport it back to the airport and fly out of Maryland hopefully never to return.

All the forum posts I can find are about folks from nearby who are vacationing and traveling through Maryland or are heading into Maryland to purchase a car/motorcycle and promptly leaving Maryland. That does not really apply to my situation and I hope someone from Maryland willl have insight on how I should handle this problem.

Also does anyone suspect that I will go through interrogation/issues once my weapons case arrives in Maryland's airport?

Long story short. Fopa covers you going through md. Not stopping in it. To transport system firearm it had to be unloaded secured separate from ammo. Then you are going to a shooting event, hunting, going to a gun related activity and legally you are supposed to be able to prove it. Ever get a receipt from a gun range before you go? Didn't think so. Md laws are set up as traps. Hard case it and whatever happens during transport your answer is always, "just passing through the state to PA", DE, or VA. Or anywhere but md.

First, IANAL but I do live here. You are OK to transport between domiciles. Your temporary apt would seem to qualify as a domicile. You should be able to go straight there from the airport. No hassles at BWI in my experience.

The gun as you note must be unloaded and locked up. Loaded magazines are legal per the AG. See thread link below.

Google MD statute 4-203 for transport law. Once MD is your destination, FOPA does not apply. The allowed activities and destinations here are very limited as you see in 4-203. I am on Maryland Shooters forum. Come ask questions there if you like.

I also attached the ruling on what constitutes an enclosed holster for transport while in MD.

see this thread for the AG mag ruling
