Any suggestions on choosing between the two?

I know that there are plenty of other options for a small double stack 9x19mm pistol, and many of those could well be "better", but I have narrowed my own choice down to these two.

These cost effective and seemingly well made pistols have reasonable pricing that is virtually the same (or six of one and a half-dozen of the other). They both feel good in my small hands, and the size and 'no safety' long DA trigger pull is just what I am looking for. Any input is very much appreciated.

Well, since you said any input, I'll chime in. I have the P11 and I think it's a good pistol. I believe Kel-tec's traditionally seen as more established than the Sccy. I have had 4 Kel-tecs: P11, P3AT, PF-9, and Sub 2000 and I've felt good about all of them. I haven't owned or fired a Sccy.

I don't have any first hand experience with the SCCY, but I have owned 2 different P11's. One as a primary CCW for almost 3 years. As such I am confident in telling you that you could not go wrong with it. It does have that long heavy DAO trigger pull but it is super smooth, an audible reset and a clean predictable break. Accurate? Combat accurate :D Between the two I had, I've only ever had one malfunction and it was a FTE that I still blame on crappy hand loads. And at the price point you can get them at nowadays you can actually afford some ammo to feed them to boot. But do yourself a favor if you do get one, and get a belt clip (literally disappears under a t-shirt) but get the factory KelTec belt clip with the screws. I had bad experiences with the Clip Draw brand that uses adhesive.

I own a P-11. While I haven't gotten to shoot a Sccy my sister has one. She used it for a 200 round class I took with her last year. She did have some failure to return to battery issues but her husband had gotten her the Sccy & it had not been cleaned, lubed or shot by them before the class. One of the instructors oiled the rails & it had no more issues.

You can research this & make sure I'm correct but unless I'm mistaken Sccy gives you your choice of a nitrided or stainless finish. My P-11 is blued & the bluing is thin & not very durable. I believe the Sccy comes with two magazines where the P-11 comes with one. I did get to dry fire a Sccy at a gun shop once & the trigger felt better to me than the trigger on my P-11. It was not lighter but it did feel cleaner.

I'm opposite of most of the other posters, I've not fired the P-11 or any KelTec but have shot the Sccy a friend owns. I was impressed with the pistol and the long double action trigger didn't feel too bad. A bit heavy but I shot a DAO revolver for years so it wasn't a problem. I dry fired a KelTec in my local LGS and the trigger just wasn't for me. The accuracy with the Sccy was pretty good but I have only fired a limited amount of ammo through it so with more practice I'm sure I could do better. A plus is the magazine capacity and for a double stack the grip is comfortable for me. I'm thinking of buying it from my friend as he can't shoot it accurately at all and he wants to get rid of it. It won't replace my Shield but would make a great truck gun.

You might add the Ruger LC9 to your list. It's basically a Kel--Tec made a bit better QC. And Ruger has very good customer service. And there are a decent amount of them showing up on the used market with the release of the LC9S. OTOH, I've hear good things about the SCCY too.

Between the two, the P11 would be MY personal choice. Mags are nearly identical to the 59/ 69 series of S&W mags, allowing for interchangeability. Also on my radar is the Sub2K, also designed to use 59 series S&W mags. I'd also be happy with a Marlin Camp Carbine for the same reason.

But, these are MY reasons.

MikeJ, the P11 also is available with a stainless slide.

After experiencing shallow bluing on my Taurus 709, my EDC will be stainless from now on.

Product quality-wise I would go with the Kel Tec. From a customer service standpoint I would choose SCCY. Ergonomically they both feel like a brick in my hand. I chose the PF-9 over the P-11.

Same gun, ain't it?

Nope. Similar design -- an obvious copy -- but parts aren't interchangeable (according to folks who have examined both in detail), and the difference is in the details.

I've not even seen a SCCY in the real world. Who knows? Maybe SCCY did some refinements that Kel-Tec thought unnecessary, as Ruger did when they copied the PF-9 and called it the LC9...

I have a SCCY CPX2 in all black. Had it for about a year. I use it as my CCW. I have had the front sight blade come loose, Sent it back and received a brand new slide in three days. It has handled everything that i have put through it. they have a No BS NO question asked warranty that goes with the gun, regardless of owner. They pay for all shipping. :D

I use 124gn GDHP with it and have had no problems, shoots great.

Lefty:cool:
