Kel-Tec PF-9 Reliable?

For reference, my other poly frame, subcompact, centerfire pistols (KT P11 and Glock 27) work perfectly when fired from the same position (with the P11 using the same ammo as the PF9). YMMV

So, I'm thinkin' the P11 has a stiffer trigger which means that when it fires, you WILL have a better grip on it by necessity. The Glock, well, it weighs twice what a PF9 weighs. Of course it's going to be less susceptible to limp wristing.

not to hijack the thread but i am thinking of getting a pf 9 in the future. Why?
well, i tried shooting my friend's P11 and the trigger pull is nasty. it was 3 or 4 yrs ago when i was a handgun noob, and i couldn't shot more than 5 rds through it. My other friend - shooter all his life couldn't get past 20 rds.

So my question, how heavy is the trigger pull on the PF 9. Thanks

MCgunner,
That's a good point about the heavier trigger pull causing the trigger finger to play a larger part in the overall grip strength. Thanks for pointing that out. I was thinking the wider back strap of the P11 and G27 (believing the G27's heavier weight {27oz to the PF9's 15.6 you are pretty close there:)}, but larger caliber are a wash.) made the difference (at least in the P11's case), but now I think the point you raise is probably the prime factor.

chuwee81,
The PF9's trigger pull is quite a bit lighter than the P11's and doesn't seem to stack as much.

Regards,
Greg

I have a P-11 that has over 5000 rds through it. The trigger pull is nasty(really nasty) but it has only jammed twice since I have owned it and those were 9mm reloads in after market mags so I am not sure if it was the pistol, cartridge or the mag.

A friend has the P3AT. He swears by it. So my limited experiance with Kel-Tec has been good

The Kahr has a lighter feel for those who can't shoot a true DA. They're TOO light for my liking. I prefer a more revolver like feel. I shoot quite well in DA, have a lot of fun with the P11 shooting 6" plates at 25 with it. I can go through 100 rounds no problem and that's how the thing got the round count it has. LOL Mine's the old 10 lb trigger, too, not the newer 8 lb. My Taurus 85UL has a very light DA trigger for a revolver and measures 11 lbs. Most J frames measure 13 lbs. I really don't see the problem with the P11 trigger if you can shoot DA revolvers at all. Of course, many don't take the time to learn that skill. It really ain't that tough, though. I'm quite good to 25 yards shooting DA and I know that I won't ever be that far away in a self defense situation. The long, stiff trigger is safer to carry in pocket carry and I just prefer it. But, I'm one shooter, rather old school, and everyone has different preferences. The 1911 guys will tell you a 4 lb preloaded Glock safe action (which reminds me of Kahr triggers) is a "nasty trigger". It's all relative, I guess.

As to the PF9, the trigger is 7 lbs and it's shorter because, like the Kahr, it's a preloaded trigger, hammer (not striker) is not fully unsprung in battery and it does not have second strike capability. The DA phobic seem to prefer it to the P11. Kel Tec basically used the P11 slide/barrel design with the P3AT trigger design when building the PF9. The bugs seem to be out of it, now. When it was first introduced, like the P3AT, it had some reported problems. It's been out long enough now that if I wanted one, I wouldn't hesitate. KT is a good company with a great customer service department, too.

In a word, yes.

I haven't had so much as a single jam in my PF-9 thus far (granted it hasn't been shot as much as I would like).

It's not hard to shoot despite its small size, and the trigger feels quite smooth in my opinion.

The only problem with mine is that the magazine it came with will only load 6 rounds, not 7. But it feeds all 6 rounds with complete reliability, so it's not a concern to me.
