How good is this rifle, considering its price? Would you say it's better than an AK? How good is it for a beginner?

I would'nt say that they're better than an AK,but they are just as much fun.I have one that use's S&W 5900 series mags and it's really cool.It would be perfect for a beginner, just read the owners manual.

Well it's not really a rifle, more of a pistol caliber carbine. As good as an AK? Depends on what you are using it for, it's not really better or worse as they are designed for completely different markets.

The Sub 2000 (mine is a 9mm with Glock magwell) is a handy folding carbine, sights are rudimentary as it is not really a long range gun, but they are quite usable at 50-100 yards. With 31 rounds and a light mounted on the optional lower rail it makes a dandy home defense or truck gun. If I had to use the weapon for longer range, or hunting, and my only other choice was an AK then I would take the AK. If it was for HD or a truck gun I'd go for the Sub 2000. Mine folded fits in a standard briefcase with 4 x 31 round mags, that's pretty handy.

I think it is simpler than an AK to operate, although until you get used to it that recoiling bolt can be annoying. To be honest though it's probably easier to shoot an AK , more conventional stock, easier to get your head in the right position, better sights.

So my choice was a Sub 2000, although I was only looking at it for a plinking/HD gun. For medium range or hunting there are other choices, the AR with a choice of uppers, SKS, SU16, HK SLB 2000, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I was looking for home defense and already have a GLOCK 23 and was looking for something else to go with it.

The thing is, from my limited research, people either seem to love or hate it so I'm a bit apprehensive.

Browningguy covered it pretty well.

I love mine for all those reasons. Fun, easy to shoot, great companion in truck or home for my Glock. Folding ability is neat.

i had one that was totally tricked out, had a bright lite, lazer, top site, pointer light, etc, buttpad ext, etc. and it still didnt weigh 5 lbs.! plus it folds up to i think 20 inches or less in lenght. it's draw back is , very uncfortable on the face , because of the steel tubestock. when you put on foam rubber padding for pipe insulation, now your eye line is to high up to use the standard sites.

the one that uses glock mags is very reliable, just dont be a left handed fire on this, you will get brass bouncing off your cheek.

I had one and loved it, 9mm with the Glock mags, used 30 rounds mags and was super-reliable. Accuracy from 50-100 yards is easy with decent ammo and a little practice. The gun is fun to shoot, very little recoil. I added the Kel-Tec sling and 1" stock extension. Easy to fold so it fit in my hurricane bug-out bag easily. I own an AK as well but I think the Sub2000 with premium HP ammo like Golden Sabres, HydraShoks, Gold-Dots, etc...is a great home defense weapon. Short, light, accurate, and very reliable.
By the way...is also extremely easy to clean.

Almost everyone that owns one, finds the S2K to be reliable and fun. I think the Sub is a great firearm. It is one of my favorites actually. Mine has been totally reliable so far (368 rounds). Accurate also. I wouldn't trade my AK for one, but I think it makes a nice addition to you firearm battery.

The Sub 2k is a neat little carbine, but watch out for the charging handle. It took two weeks for the web of my hand to heal.

If you will search for the Keltec Owners Group web site, they have tips on these. Like how to rubber coat the charging handle to make it better. And many other things.

Neat little carbines.

I've got one and its neat because it folds, but past that you gain little ballistic advantage over a handgun. You do gain the ability to hit out to longer distances easier (100 yards before the bullet drops like a rock), but you're still hitting with a handgun round.

If you want a rifle, I'd suggest a "real" rifle to start with. The ak-47 is nice but I'm not comfortable with it indoors as much as I would be something chambered in 5.56 like an ar-15 or the keltec su-16c. The price of ammo goes up past 9mm, but you get a real rifle round with real rifle wounding capability.
