Just bought a keltec .380 for a backupgun for my ankle. Looking at the gun, it has no sights! Its not even painted. I'm guessing I could put some white paint on the front sight, but does anyone have any suggestions for this problem?

Actually I did hit mine with orange paint up front.

You have to bear in mind the purpose of the P3AT. It isn't a target gun and probably shouldn't even be a primary carry gun.

What it is is a "press-the-muzzle-against-your-attacker-because-he's-right-on-top-of-you-and-you're-in-a-crapload-of-trouble" gun.

Its a belly gun, you shouldnt be aiming it in the first place.

Aim a main carry weapon as this is last ditch.

Yep, Kel-Tecs are for point shooting, as with most BUGs. If you want a better sight, your only option is to color it yourself.

:D:D

Ya, not much there. Remember, though, you need to hit the vitals or nervous system elsewise they will just keep attacking you. :)

The p3at is not a "belly gun", whatever that is supposed to mean, it is reasonably accurate and precise shooting is very possible with it. Personally, I put white point on the front sight and some white point on the bottom of the rear sight rear under the notch. Line up the two dots and pull the trigger. It give you quick sight alignment for fast accurate shots and is pretty visible in low light.

P.S. I know what the definition of a belly gun is. I put it in the catagory of dum dum bullets. Not a good nor desirable term. I would not carry a lethal weapon that YOU say is a belly gun, then take a shot outside of contact distance and say your were aiming it. The P3ATs I've fired and my personal P32 put a full magazine in a patch about the size of my fist. Thats a little better than "belly gun" distance. If you can't do that with it you should upgrade the sights or get a different gun.

A 'belly gun" is one that you shove into someone's belly and shoot. That's the P3AT.

Now if you want an "accurate and precise shooting" P3AT, you might try justifying putting a scope on the tiny 8oz. handgun... 686.gif

No sights? That's funny, I was clearing a plate rack at 25 yards with mine soon after purchasing it. The sights are small, but well regulated and usable with decent lighting. The harder issue is keeping the stock pistol from riding up in your hand a little after each shot. I added a +1 mag extension which helped. I also had the front and backstrap of the grip stippled. That made a huge difference in the pistol not slipping up from recoil.

The ones I've seen all have vestigial sights, not no sights at all, like the Seecamp. For the carries this gun is intended for, protruding high visibility sights can snag and add bulk. If you are unable to see the actual sights, you can use the Jim Cirillo's "silhouette point" in which you superimpose the rear of the slide on the target.

To quote my friend, Mr. Larry Seecamp: :scrutiny:

"You don't need sights on a defensive handgun"; and this is why he does
not put 'em on his wonderful LWS 32's amd 380's~! ;)

Most attacks occur from between 0 and 7 yards (21 feet); so you will not
have time to use sights; even if you had 'em. :(

old_ironsights. I said I KNOW what your definition of a bellygun is. The fact thats all your capable of with a P3AT speaks to the shooters ability as a shooter, not the guns ability to shoot. I was trying to make that point a bit more politely. You should have read my post a little bit better. I have not any any problems shooting the P32/P3AT guns accurately out to combat distance. The sights are small but they are there, you just need to use them.

My other point was that the term "belly gun" is a bit ignorant in my opinion. If you are at contact distance with a small caliber firearm fighting for your life your going to stick a gun in the attackers belly? That doesn't make sense. I would go for the heart area or the head not the "belly". Also a semi-auto as a belly gun? Most semis wont fire if you press the muzzle up against someone's belly as it will be pushed out of battery. A very small revolver like the NAA or derringer would be the only thing I would consider to be a "belly gun" if I HAD to put something in that category.

I want sights on all of my defensive handgusn. I like to use them for target shooting as well. It builds my confidence in them. I will not buy a defensive handgun that does not have sights.

A 'belly gun" is one that you shove into someone's belly and shoot

Then your "belly gun" better be a revolver! Pushing on the muzzle of an autoloader can unlock the action and make the gun not shoot!

Fluorescent yellow paint helped my P3AT front sight immensely.

I painted both sights green with Bright Sights (works well, very expensive). Then I decided I wanted more contrast between the front sight and the rear sight and I wanted the front sight to be more prominent than the rear.

Went to Michael's craft store (A.C. Moore, Ben Franklin, etc. would also have this). Found 2 oz. bottles of acrylic craft paint in almost any imaginable color for $.89 each. Bought two different colors (enough paint for thousands of applications) Settled on the red (it is actually almost pink). It stands out well against most background colors.

Applied a couple of coats with a toothpick. I waited until the next day so the craft paint would be completely dry, then I applied an overcoat of two coats of my wife's clear nail polish. I also overcoated the Bright Sight green while was at it.

After two years of 24/7 carry the edges of the sights that rub against the holster are beginning to need a touch-up.

One thing I noticed is; the more the light is coming from behind (shining on the sights) they brighter they are and the more they stand out, the more the light is from the front the darker and less colorful are the sights. Also, the dimmer the light the less colorful and more black they look.

Bottom line… I find the bright colors help a lot under most conditions, and I like the painted sights much better than the black.

I put white paint on the front sight and under the rear notch. In low light I just put one dot on top of the other and it hits right where I want it.

Here ya go, jon_in_wv, a mere $275.00 sight conversion for the
P3AT from "Tooltech Gunsight" that'll turn your P3at into a genuine, bonafide sniper's weapon.

Like I said, the sights are fine. You just need to practice. That fact is apparently lost on you as I have explained that three times now. I suggest you stick to a "belly gun" and leave the shooting to us.

Tooltech Gunsight is not to far from me. Its a small tiny little shop. I havent had any work done by them ( I do all my own work ) , just transfers.

Looks like a good idea though. But for $275 thats expensive. How much at p3at's now $199 ?

Shoot I d do that for $75 plus the cost of the sights !!!I couldnt spend that much on a sight setup and only have paid $200 for the gun ?? At that price, I d buy a used CPO Sig.
