Kershaw Launch 15

The Launch 14 is made in the US, Magnacut, and has a micarta inlay that may improve grip. I am not a big fan of dagger type knives, but this is tempting me at $150.

Since Customs regs prohibit import of switchblades, all the larger manufacturers have their autos produced in the US.

I know some companies have major parts shipped in and the percentages kept controlled to meet the "made in the usa" requirement (and some blur that line). And there are a couple of smaller concerns going well into the <WINK> percentages. Then there's the outright 100% offshore ones (some exceptional ... some far less).

In Kershaw's case, I can accept their claim since they have an extensive line of autos and a reputation to protect. They could be made at their Tualatin OR facility.

Some also install an auto parts kit here into imported non auto knives.

I think a lot of Boker autos are made this way.

I converted a Shrade flipper this way. It had the cut out for the coil spring so I bought one (coil spring)
and installed it. Auto knife now.

I'm pretty excited about this one, gonna have to get the Livewire OTF too, not sure which first though.

I'm not in the magnacut bandwagon :uhoh:

I'm sure it's great steel, but I'm getting nauseous at the biggest selling point for every manufacturer now is.....we have magnacut! I'm just not sold that it's an improvement over s90v, m390, or 204p which are my favorites.

The Launch 15 has some great things going for it, that blade profile is sexy! The lack of safety is essential to me, and that inlay looks classy.

I have a couple knives in MC at this point, it's not the be all end all, but it strikes a nice balance of decent edge retention and good toughness while being about as stainless as it gets. It's not going to hold an edge as long as the steels you mentioned, but it's tougher and more stainless. More to the point most of the Launch line comes in 154CM, and MC is an upgrade in pretty much every aspect, so this is a nice change.
