You want Kilt Prejudice? Try wearing one to law enforcement training!
As a devout Utilikilt wearer and 17 year LEO, I love to spaz out my fellow LEO's at various training conferences. When I wore mine to a Pacific Tacitcal training session here in Washington, I thought my classmates were going to sh*t. It helped that I knew the instructor, Rob DeGroot, who pretended not to notice anything was unusual.
For the first 2 hours the other students frantically pretended nothing was out of the ordinary. Finally, at the second break, one of the guys got the guts to ask "Did you lose a bet or something?" My reply of "No. Why do you ask?" left him totally flustered, at which point Rob and I both started laughing and everyone finally relaxed.
If you go to
www.pacifictactical.com and click on 'training classes' and scroll down to the second picture, you will see me in all my glory, demonstrating my Striker 12 gauge. They didn't have the guts to show my knobby knees
claiming they just didn't have the room for a full length picture, but those in the know will definitely recognize a Nightwatch Camo Utilikilt.
As to Utilkilt CCW there is plenty of room for toys, you just have to be really creative...and realize everyone is going to be looking at you, so it has to work. For winter days, when I am wearing a jacket, I have beatiful old S&W Mod. 19, done up in 70's gunfighter style, with the bobbed hammer, relieved trigger gaurd, stippled backframe and faux ivory grips. It just seems to fit.
At this same training someone commented that with Mod.19 I only had six shots, which was pretty brave since I was 'wearing a skirt in the bad part of town.' Rob know's I like hidden toys and gave me the go ahead to show them. I produced 2 speedloaders and a can of OC from the coat, my backup titanium S&W .38 snubbie from the thigh holster, the speed strip of .38 special reloads, 2 tactical folders and 3 Hideaway knives from various folds and pleats.
The joke for the rest of the class was "Don't mess with old guys in skirts!"
