I'm not asking for you to decide whether to buy or not, but there's something quite appealing to a full-sized 1911 chambered for the .17 HMR round. Maybe it's the "probable" lack of recoil when shooting a small caliber "magnum" round. It's too bad that the .22 WMR round wasn't very reliable in the AMT autoloader.

Any of you have one of these $700 Kimber .17's?
I already have several 1911's, chambered for the .45 ACP. I'd just like to find out what the "regular guys" might have to say about it, instead of relying upon the gun publications for their somewhat "slanted" reviews.

Thanks!

FWIW, Kimber's pistols are not chambered in .17 HMR. They're chambered in .17 Mach II, which is similar to the HMR but roughly the same length as .22 LR.

Stasher1 is correct. I have Kimbers 22lr conversion and it shoots excellent. I believe they make the same conversion for the 17.

Thanks, Stasher1 and JMusic. I wasn't sure if the Kimber was chambered for the .17 or the Mach II.
However, I'm still wondering about the performance, if you've actually fired one. I'm not really interested in a conversion slide/magazine, for it would be a "dedicated" pistol by itself.

Haven't fired one but read a report from Gary James. He was impressed. The 17 is an interesting caliber and a safer round to shoot in urban area's. You can expect 1700 fps from the pistol from what I have gathered. I probably will order a conversion kit to go with the 22lr. I carry a Kimber CDP Pro which ahs an aluminum frame. Makes for a lightweight rimfire and helps break in the trigger mechanics. If your not stuck on an auto Smith makes a K frame that is a tack driver. Take care
