Howdy,

I own a Kimber 4" 1911 (alloy frame) that I bought new about 5 years ago. It has issues with FTF quite often. I have tried a Chip McCormick magazine vs. the factory with no change. I have shot about 700 rounds through this pistol and should be passed the "break-in" period. I have tried Winchester white box ammo, home rolled reloads with different oal from 1.200" to 1.260", as well as some PDX defense rounds. I would like to replace the recoil spring to see if that makes a difference before I send it back to Kimber or sell it off. What lb. rating would you recommend for this piece?

I had a problem with my Kimber as well. The slide wouldn't go all the way forward after a shot. I replaced the recoil spring and it shoots fine now.

I bought one from Kimber that was heavier than the original one.

This is not related to your problem, but one of the standard recommendations is to avoid using McCormick mags with an aluminum framed pistol as the Devel follower is known to tip out of the tube and can gouge aluminum feed ramps.

It's ossible you are using the PowerMag +, with a modified follower, or you have a ramped barrel or steel insert in your feed ramp. If so, never mind.

They're spendy but try a couple Wilson 47D mags. They have plastic followers that should work great and not scratch the feed ramp. They run good too!

I used them in a full size Kimber with an alloy frame.

Thanks Kruzr, I ordered the spring today. We'll see what happens.

I didnt know about the Chip McC mags being bad for the pistol. I think I bought one of their match grade mags on sale to try out. If I have luck with the spring change, I will look at the Wilson 47D mags. At $30 each, I should order a dozen of them. :)

Thanks for all of the help. I will repost with results.
