I own a Yonkers 82; beautifully made and extremely accurate. I don't shoot it that much (maybe 300 rounds thru it in ten years) so I am guessing that it has not yet been "broken in". I say this because the bolt cocking during the handle lift is quite stiff (not obnoxiously stiff, more like a new stiff) or maybe these bolts are a little over sprung - not sure. I also own an 84M that is slicker on the up lift - feels about right on that rifle. Anyway, looking for experienced input. Thanks.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I have a very well worn 82, and its glass smooth on opening and closing. Only thing you could try is a good cleaning and then re-oil the action and bolt, but it may just need some wearing in.

I second the accuracy part though, these things are so accurate its almost boring.

I have two M82s, one in .22LR and one in .22 Hornet. Both are beautiful rifles and very accurate. I have put more than 20,000 rounds through the .22 LR -- as evidenced by the empty 5,000 round cases in my basement.

The cocking stud on the M82 is a screw with a left handed thread. Try putting a little grease on this stud and see if it doesn't help.

Thank for the grease idea (duh on me); though maybe over spring or just lots more shooting - will go the lubricant path.
