Well, I traded my pretty much new XD40, 3 mags, Blade-Tech holster and mag carrier for a Kimber Custom Classic today. It's a guy that I shoot with. He had a Bomar rear put on and the whole thing NP3d. Needs to be cleaned up a little now and some of my own personal touches. I'll post a couple of pics when I am done. Not sure I made a great trade or not considering he owed me some money too but I have always wanted a Clackamas for some weird reason.

You made a seriously good trade. If the Kimber is in good condition you came out at least a couple hundred dollars ahead.

The Clackamas Kimber was a really fine production 1911.

As it was refinished with a non factory finish the value dropped considerably, but it's still a fine Kimber.

Yeah, the finish bothered me too but it is well done and will last a long time and I really have no intention of ever selling it as a collector piece or I wouldn't be shooting it.

As for a screaming trade deal, you have to remember, the guy owed me some cash too. I think I may have broken even or maybe even lost a hundred or so in the deal but I have wanted this gun for a while and now he is all paid up in my book.

Not to nitpick, BUT... the first 5,000-6,000 Kimbers were rollmarked "CLACKAMAS,OR" because that's where the comapny had their offices, and for legal reasons it was best to put that on there. Every Kimber (except for one, as I understand) was actually manufactured in the "YONKERS,NY" facility, and the rollmark was changed to reflect that upon the move of home base operations there.

The Clack Kimbers are wonderful examples of a 1911; they were made with the painstaking care that one takes when one is trying to take command of a market. I had one, and I regret daily turning loose of it... :banghead:

Oh... yeah, you made a GREAT trade...

Congratulations. I would like to find a Clackamas Kimber, myself.

Steelharp - I know the feeling on selling something that you regret. There are a few guns that I REALLY regret selling.

BHP MKII w/rib... Ithaca M37 Police... Colt 70 Series Government... Wilson CQB... Some knives... blah, blah, blah...

Sigh...

Hey I've got a Clackamas kimber custom with bomars too. :D I got it new and had the slide cut for the adjustable sight. It's been shot alot and it still is really accurate and reliable. Enjoy. Mark
